Okay. Where the fuck is the blaze spawner? You know, the one through the portal in the nether hub? I swear to god, if somebody destroyed it I will start murdering them and I may never stop.

 

I destroyed it :/ Monsters kept coming out of it and trying to murder me so I retaliated.

 

Remind me again. Can't you disable a monster spawner by putting torches on each side and on top?

 

Don't have anywhere to put it yet; if anyone wants to start work on a little killy area then go ahead.

 

Is the server still up? Or have the mod distributions changed since Drome's last instructions?

Hey guys, I have a few questions. I've never really played Minecraft before (maybe about 30 mins), but a friend has convinced me to play with him. He's pretty new to it as well.

I've seen this thread around and I was wondering if I should use this modpack when I first play the game? If not, are there any mods I should use?

The biggest problem I always had with Minecraft, is I never really knew what to do. I always wanted to go find treasure in places, like in Terraria, but I don't know if that's actually possible.

Are there any guides on what to do, apart from just building stuff?

 

I'd start with vanilla, just to get to know the game.

As for your problem of what to do, try to establish a couple of goals for yourself, then attain them. Since you're basically brand new to this, I'd suggest:

• Build a house out of smelted stone (this will get you used to the furnace and workbench).
• Make a farm.
• Craft a full set of iron armour (requires 24 iron ore, smelted in a furnace with coal/charcoal as the fuel).
• Make a cake.
• Make a bow + arrows.
• Dig a mine down to the bedrock (you'll know it when you hit some unbreakable rocks).
• Experiment with redstone circuits.
• Fully explore a cavern (bring torches).
• Build an enchantment table/brewing stand.
• Fully explore a stronghold (you'll know it by the wooden buildings and spider webs).
• Craft a full set of diamond armour + Sword.
• Go to the Nether.
• Go to the End. Kill the Enderdragon.

As a side note, note down the location of your house (e.g. x 123 y 456 z 23) so that you don't get lost. I can't remember if vanilla has waypoints, but there is nothing more annoying than going out to explore and not being able to find your way back. Especially if you end up dying with a full inventory.

Anyway, that list should give you anywhere from a week to a month's worth of stuff to do (depending on if you play like Drome or if you play like me). It should also give you a good grounding for starting off in FTB, since you're not having to learn the basics at the same time as learning everything else.

 

Soooooo... My Quarry vanished. And I know it couldn't have exploded. And I'm in need of a ridiculous amount of copper. Not happy right now.

Edit: Scratch that, I just had two engines taken. The fuck...

 

The Mining World has some issues with chunk loading IIRC. The same thing kept happening to me.

 

Don't worry about the engines. Easy to replace.

I've spent 3 days collecting, crafting and safely setting up a nuclear reactor.

Haven't been able to log in for days now. Is it my special brand of luck or is the server down?

Just tried to log in. Server showed up as online but first attempt yielded a "bad login" message. Tried again and had a socketjava whatsits something something error. And then I hit refresh and the server was down.

Did I really crash it? How? And also, sorry!
