Hey Arid, could you ask your friend to set me to creative mode for a day? Making a mob grinder manually is obscenely difficult.

The server now has a whitelist.

I'm done with it, anyone else got one?

Meh, not about to faff about on another board to get registered just to see if any other DLPers actually play on this server.

    This might help: http://volumedrive.com/vdrive/?a=vps

My friend had the "VPS Package 1" ($5/month) and the four/five of us could play on it smoothly, more people would usually cause the VPS to go down... I am guessing if you get the "VPS Package 2" ($9/month) up to 10 people will be able to play.

Or you can just find out how much resources minecraft takes and compare them with what they provide.

Rough count shows at least 11 people in the last 2-3 days want in on a server. Probably more, once we actually had one going...

I did some research, the minecraft wiki says that 2GB RAM minimum is recommended.

    VPS costs:
    $9/month - 2GB ram
    $15/month - 4GB ram

Also, I don't know how reliable this site is (http://canihostaminecraftserver.com/) but it says that with 2GB ram we can run for 15 players and with 4GB for 30.

Eh, there's a lot more to getting a good server than just getting more memory.

    EDIT: zeus.ucd.ie

Server's out of date atm but I'll nag my friend into updating.

We'd want a server that can handle people from all over the world without any lag. 15-20 slots (since not everyone will be on at the same time) and some sort of admin control to be able to install mods.

I'm interested in joining, but I'd be a sporadic participant.

That said, if a decent server went up, I'd be happy to contribute to running costs, and would be much more likely to play regularly.

What kind of server would you guys like?

    Vanilla or content mods?
Whitelist or public with permission groups?
Teleport, portals or non of that; to promote superawesme railways?
Possibly to switch to creative/spawn items or not?
    Claim/protect land?

I'd like to play vanilla survival on a public server with permissions so people can join and tour the world. I'd prefer railway since it's that more awesome than instant travel. I don't like the possibility to switch to creative/spawn items since people will get lazy and get bored (that's what happens to me..) and it's much more rewarding when you finnish a legit project. I don't think we need protected/claimed land, if we just respect others and use signs it should be fine.

I like your thoughts on the matter, whenever I play with creative I end up bored very soon afterwards.

Agreed. Although I'd prefer a Whitelisted server, but I guess having a permissions list works fine as well.

I'll gladly fork over money to help cover server costs if need be. The main reason I haven't been playing any Minecraft recently is the lack of a private server with people I actually know about and can be sure of their quality (to a certain degree).

Portals are cool and all, but a railroad network sounds badass.

I'm totally and 100% down with your reccomendations, Giz, because honestly that sounds fun.

One suggestion, though? Consider a "Creepers don't do structural damage with their explosions" mod. It's honestly pretty frustrating to try to build stuff that keeps getting blown up by mobs that are freaking impossible to manage.

EDIT: Also. Railway through the nether, glass enclosed. Now you're thinking with portals.

I've been talking to Raven and he has agreed to host a server for us for a one time fee (that I've paid). But I'll keep donating every month if this goes well. :)

You, sir, are a legend. I was all set to offer some money monthly too.

I can't agree more with the 'creative mode leads to boredom' theory. But maybe have a system of 'you can trade x for y' and so on, so it doesn't take forever and a day to build anything massive? Dunno ...

And again, you're a legend. As is Raven.

Dwitty: While iconomy is nice, it usually leads to bloating of supplies very quickly. Anyway, if enough DLPers actually play, then we can just swap supplies.

Plus... Well, to be honest, there's few resources that actually are that frustrating to get.

    EDIT:

    <3 Raven. <3 Gizzie. (Is that pronounced with a hard G or a J sound? :p)
