I'm playing SMP, so I don't have that disadvantage. Also if you destroy the age book to a given dimension and you don't have any linkbooks to that dimension, then that dimension ceases to exist.

So today was mod hunting day. I tried a few, but my favorite is More Explosives Mod.

    This pic demonstrates why.

    Nuclear blast.

Sorry, but nope. The files relating to that dimension are still present in the save folder, taking up hard drive space. You have to go in manually to delete those. If you have cheats on, you can use a command to generate a notebook to get you back to that dimension, even if the original is destroyed and there are no linking books to it.

8gb. It's played fine last year, year and a half ago when I had it. I had a photorealistic tex pack, god knows how many mods. Now, not so much.

Yeah I tried that. Went right to FTB. too much, overwhelming, cbf to mess with it. Give me vanilla with a minimap mod. I wish I could find a mod to bring back old style world generation. I don't mind the newer biomes, but I swear to fuck 75% of the worlds I've generated involve me spawning in at the bottom of an ocean, and there being shit all in any direction, even when I fly forever in any direction. It's annoying.

Some basic mods that I found useful:

    Rei's Minimap: Obvious why.
WholeTreeAxe: makes cutting down forest faster, but it takes diamond to make it so...
Obsidian++: Some more use for obsidian: full set of armor and tools, weapons and better then diamond.
CondensedBlocks: Good for storing all those pesky cobblestone and dirt and sand stacks.
    ChestTransporter: Makes moving easier.
Craftguide: You don't have to switch to the internet to find out how to make something and it automatically recognizes the new recipes added by mods.
MoreFurnaces: Furnace upgrades. Vanilla furnace gives you 8 smelting per coal, the highest tier(diamond) furnace that this mode gives you gives you 40 smeltings per coal. Also add Netherfurnace that doesn't need fuel but it is slower than any of the others.
IronChest: More storage in one chest.
Backpack: More storage in your inventory, also add ender backpack that functions the same way as enderchest.
ShowDurability: I don't know why this isn't given, but a small mode and it makes all the differences.

For me these mods made Vanilla Minecraft a little more enjoyable without making it impossibly complex.

I tried it out just a bit more, so it at least gave me an idea of what mods I want, if any. The minimap is a must have and extra biomes xl is nice for variety, but the rest of it is unnecessary. I don't need to make a computer, or build force fields, or go to alternate dimensions, or have a portal gun.

Sounds like you'd like Mo' Creatures, Sin! My favourite mod for adding to overworld gameplay. It's seriously the shit, if you haven't seen it before.

I'm curious. What is this Mo' Creatures you speak of, 'Drome? I'm stuck making lunch right now, so I'll look it up when I'm done.

EDIT: Okay. I looked. Just...that title:

This really does look like my kind of mod. It's less about adding levels of complexity and more about front-end fun. Thanks for the rec!

Thaumcraft 3, why you so awesome!?

There's been a recent Thaumcraft 3 update that blew my mind enough that I just had to share. Anyone who was missing a lot of the toys from Thaumcraft 2 can rejoice.

Direwolf spotlight on the additions. There's major spoilers in the video, obviously, so if you like to research and discover things yourself don't watch.

But holy shit, when I saw the Arcane Bore my head exploded. That is a thing of beauty.

Okay, so this. Any news on this, Jon? I am keenly interested in getting a new DLP server up - I was thinking perhaps play the Direwolf20 pack?

If Jon doesn't want to set up a server then I will, should the desire be there. I just need to know how many people want it to start figuring out how much RAM to buy, and some vague indication that people who play would be willing to chip in a small amount to keeping it running every month.

Yar, I'd be in for it. As for chipping in, depends on how much. How much indeed.

I'm in, and I'll chip in if it's not too outrageous. Been getting bored playing by myself. I think we should run the Direwolf20 pack minus EE3 because it is pretty game-breaking. My SSP world is a heavily modified version of Direwolf20 as it is, though slightly out of date.

I'm currently running a vanilla server, which I don't mind opening up to a few more people. We don't have many slots, though I don't think we'll need to expand much unless a lot of people want to play.

Mods may be introduced soon, but I'm not very familiar with many yet, so I'm reluctant to make big changes.
