I'm so down for this - and up for chipping in with server costs of course.

I'd love to go vanilla or an enhanced vanilla pack - I was thinking it'd be great to work collaboratively on a base together - or at least nearby.

 

vanilla is very boring imo. I don't think I can play without stuff like minecraft reloaded and tinker's construct.

 

Yeah, I run into that when playing vanilla single player. Don't see how it'll be any different multiplayer.

With that in mind, we could do a nice balance between vanilla and, say, Unleashed. Get rid of all the fluff and keep some core mods that ideally don't bug out the world (trust me, you don't want me fixing bugs)

What mods would you like to see? The absolute must-have mods. I'm thinking:

- Tinker's Construct
- Biomes O' Plenty
- Industrialcraft2 or Buildcraft? (I lean toward IC2 but w/o quarry)
- Compact Solars

What else?

 

Applied Energistics (2) is fun. There's also Thermal Expansion for similar type of stuff. and Ender IO. And Pam's Harvestcraft. And Thaumcraft. AE2 is probably my favorite, though most modpacks I play with have all of those as the base sort of thing.
If you want to add bosses and tougher mobs that make the game more interesting, there's Chocolatecraft and Divinerpg.

 

I'd veto Pam's Harvestcraft. It adds a lot of fluff and clutter, and way too much world gen.

 

Looked at Harvestcraft and it looks like Drome is right, fluff galore. Thermal Expansion is fun but I'd rather have one energy system running, just one. Minimizing world gen is the goal here. A few, simple ores that offer enough complexity to play with.

AE2... I'm not sure. I guess it's better than having items flowing one by one through pipes. That can get laggy really quickly. Will look into it. Ditto for Chocolatecraft and Divine RPG, never seen those before.

This could take a while. Anybody know of any modpacks that sort of go in this direction? A sort of upgraded vanilla, without getting too out of hand?

EDIT: Leaning heavily toward Tekkit Lite. Check out the mod list and let me know if it sounds good. Only thing it's missing IMO is Biomes O' Plenty.

 

These days I just use the Shaders mod, Biomes O Plenty and Mo Creatures.

If you're looking for modpacks which are adventure themed, just play Hexxit on the Technic launcher.

 

tbh I'm very interested, but the closer to Vanilla the more interested I am. That said my PC can handle plenty so I'd be willing to accept whatever mod setup people want.

 

Maybe a magic mod? Ars Magica Thaumcraft or maybe Minegicka? Also Tinkers Construct is a must. Oh and Witchery is super fun.

 

This definitely sounds fun FTB really put me off when I tried for the first time for the last server. If it ever comes down to a decision I'll vote and chip in for the server cost.

 

Instead of throwing modpacks that make the game super easy, why not go with something like terrafirmacraft which adds complexity into the game by making it really difficult instead?

 

So I went ahead and made a Tekkit Lite server. Let's see how it goes. If it doesn't work out we can always change it.

Now, in case you don't know Tekkit Lite is an available modpack from the Technic Launcher so you can get it straight from there. Shouldn't be any mod incompatibilities. Also suggest getting Sphax if you want a texture pack; it's complete and easy to find.
