Monitor turns on and off during videogames

Every once and a while when playing Skyrim my monitor will turn off then after a few seconds it will come back on again. It seems to happen the most when I go into a building or the like but it does happen when I'm exploring outside. So far it hasn't happened with any other games, although I haven't tried many others besides Skyrim.

I've checked on Google and it seems like a bunch of people say it's a faulty videocard and/or power supply. Is there another reason or can anyone confirm this?

Another note, it only started when I installed the new nVidia driver. Well, the newest and the one before that; I rolled back and the problem stopped.

Does the monitor actually turn off, or does the screen just go black? I had this same issue a while back, and it was a consequence of a less than stellar HD cable.

Yeah, could have worded it better. The screen goes black and I get a 'No signal', then after a bit it'll come back on.

I'm not sure if it's the monitor cable, the problem only started when I downloaded nvidia's newest (Second and newest now.) drivers. I rolled back before and it seemed to solve the problem, I was hoping that the newest driver wouldn't have that issue. I rolled back again, so I post back if it goes away again.

So it seems like it's a driver issue. I rolled back twice over and the on and off problem stopped. I have no clue why new drivers would cause this but whatever.
