Nah, Han owns the Falcon, he got Leia ( and you'll never know what that means to geeks around the world if the Metal Bikini wasn't the closest thing you had to porn then), helped blow up the Death Star (twice!) and of course did the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs, and passed on his lopsided-smile genes to three children, Indiana Jones... found a crystal skull and some sparkly CG aliens.

    Indiana Jones =/= Han Solo

Indiana Jones < Han Solo. And don't you forget it.

Yeah, but Han Solo couldn't do all those tricks with a whip.

Only because he didn't own a whip. Han Solo is the Chuck Norris of a galaxy far, far away.

The only way that Indiana Jones = Han Solo, is in terms of how awesome they are.

Dr Strange Lulz : No please see my above post. Han Solo is the guy who boned Chuck Norris' mom and then broke her heart in the GFFA. Therefore Han> Chuck

And while we're in the grips of fanboyism...

    No, wait, we're not.

    On topic:

"His mother, paging between fits of rage..."

Not sure how that could happen.

    Two things that I always see and they piss me off;
Delores, Doleres, Deleres etc, when it's Dolores.
Past, and passed ALWAYS being mixed up. Ick.

A lot of these errors we see is if the author had a) a decent grasp on the English language and the grammar it uses, b) a beta that has a decent grasp on the English language and the the grammar it uses, and c) the ability to fucking look up the goddamn name in the fucking actual book!

I originally thought that the uh/ugh switch was just about the most annoying thing I'd ever seen in a fic.

I was very wrong. It's just been superseded by the aw/ah switch that I've encountered in 5 different stories in the last 3 days  Is this some Brit-speak thing that I'm unfamiliar with?

Althought it's a somewhat understandable mistake, i find the use of "fall" instead of "Autumn"..... more than a little iritating.

Now i can sort of understand that some american writers, even ones who actually write semi-decent stories, might not appreciate that there is a distinction. One would think they might have noticed the absence of such american terms in the book however.

When a author does not know how to put a capital letter at the start of each sentence. For fuck sake, did they pass grade one or what?

EDIT: ^ See above post. ^ I now also include having a lower case i as a pet peeve.

Raging about grammar when your own is less than brilliant is kinda hypocritical. Trying fixing your own faults before attacking others.

I do agree that lower case I's are annoying though. I'm pretty sure I learned to capitalise properly in primary school >_>.

Nothing was personal. Sorry if I offended jpdt, but since he hasn't replied I guess I didn't. That edit wasn't anything personal, I just read his post and added that to my list.

I also was not pointing out forum grammar, because as you said I would be one the worst persons for it.

However since this thread is for pointing out grammar errors in stories and not forums, I stand by my earlier statement, and further give a half assed re-post of what my original post should of been.

    -

Capitals and other common grammar errors annoy me to no end, for the simple fact that a simple proof read should be able to remove such errors 90% of the time.

    Nope you didn't

It's just a personal issue of mine. I have this strange idea in my mind when typing that I's should be put in lower case except at the start of the sentance!

I'm always disabused by spellcheck, or when i read over what i've said again :D

What pisses me off about fanfiction (besides turning Draco into a romantic, girl-obsessed, sensitive stud) is that half of the authors keep abandoning really great fics and never come back to it. Yes, I know that they have a life other than writing their fanfics, but still they could have found the time to finish them.

Fics with zillions of spelling mistakes and no capitals make no sense to me. It resembles a five year olds writing, IMO.

So, so true. One of my favourite stories hasn't been updated since 2007. I've written it off as abandoned, but confirmation would be nice.

My most retarded error though, doesn't actually come from a story, but from a review for one of my stories.

"Harry isn't a half-blood; he's a full blood wizard because both of his parents were magical. The muggle born are those with no magical parent at all. Hermione is a muggle born. Half-blood's have one only one magical parent. Seamus Finnegan is a half blood. A full-blood has two magical parents like Harry does. A pureblood has no no muggle blood in their lineage. That's what Ron is."

    a) Yes, Harry is a half-blood.
    b) Full blood? Say what?
