When I heard there was only one update to wrap up the fight and the entire story, I was expecting a pretty lame conclusion.

I'm happy to have been incredibly wrong. Not only did this wrap up the entire fight and story in a satisfying way, it was actually foreshadowed and took advantage of multiple Chekov's guns. I don't think anyone foresaw what was actually happening, but all the clues were there!

Post-ending Speculation:

I'm not quite sure exactly what was real and what was not in the penultimate chapter. Was old Silverlake real? Did she absorb her younger self or was the grey hunter victorious? Were the two imperial treasures actually given to Oganj or was that part of the aborted win?

I believe everything in Window of Opportunity and Win (III) happened so Silverlake showed up to deal with the time loop Silverlake, which makes perfect sense in hindsight off course she went looking for what happened and knows herself well enough that leaving the other alive would mean her death.

And Oganj was indeed given the two imperial treasures. Though I imagine Zach and Zorian will handle that eventually not only for the treasures, but also because Oganj is far too great a threat to leave be. Either they are active about dealing with him or they will have to be reactive.

As for what happened to time loop Silverlake, well it was probably the grey hunter since I think original Silverlake would be wary of taking any risks there so probably just ensured she was dead and left.

EDIT: I just realized, and double checked, the Imperial Crown has a fixed size for reserves so it won't actually be much useful to Oganj.

 

I enjoyed this, it resolved in a satisfying way.

If this is the same Grey Hunter we've encountered before than it might've just been revenge. We knew that Silverlake had been hunting it long enough that it was experienced defending itself from mages.

 

A very good conclusion.

I admit that when I skimmed the ending yesterday, because I didn't have time to fully read it, and I was doubtful about Zorian's inception plan mechanics, but it was really well explained once I got into the details.

What I really liked was that the two other loopers got their point of view chapters, allowing even Jornak to present his side of everything.

And I was really amused by Zach having two girlfriends at the same time when Zorian never bothered even with one. They really complete each other perfectly.

My only complain would be the lack of a proper epilogue, even if the last chapter ends on a very good resolution, but then I read that we will get one more chapter.

 

The epilogue will probably be out tomorrow. Looking forward to a few things:

2. do ZnZ go back to the academy?
3. An non-aggression agreement between QI and ZnZ - I'm glad they never found out where his phylactery was.
4. Daimen's reactions when the orb is lost.

I think Fortov should make an appearance, but don't expect any resolution. Same with the terrible dad plotline, I wouldn't expect any further resolution. Would love if Fortov actually explains what the Ibery situation is all about though - if it's more to it than over-enthusiastic sexual harassment from Ibery.

There's definitely a long list of stuff the author just hinted at and we never found out.

What's up with the gods disappearing?
Who were those two girls with Zach in initial Red Robe loop/Zorian loop #1?
What's up with Neolu's family?
What's with Fortov/Ibery?
What's with Alanic and Silverlake - exactly?
What's up with Zorian's extra poor relationshi with his dad?

I know most of these aren't really important, but I'd like to know anyway.

 

Plus three things that I expected to matter more, but didn't:
1. The Headmaster.
2. The soulbounded twins.
3. The vampire lady.

 

We will have to await until tomorrow.

Any predictions for the epilogue?

I say QI makes an appearance to negotiate a joint attack on Oganj. And Zach and Zorian don't take the bait.

Okay so who's going to start writing the MoL fanfiction? I need my ships.

 

I honestly didn't think that it would end in a satisfactory manner. I must admit, I am pleasantly surprised.

 

It was a nice epilogue, that Grey Hunter tease though...
