Yes, I'm quite aware this is in the wrong forum. Had both this and the Real Life section open and for some reason, voila. Thank you, Microsoft.

Tried the search button and failed to find one, so, here goes...

Got any interesting music concert tales or experiences to share?

I just saw "Porcupine Tree" on their "Fear of a Blank Planet" tour, and it was incredible.

For those that don't know them - to which I expect a lot of people - they are a progressive rock outfit that originated in '87. Their style started with very Pink Floyd-esque music, which has developed into prog-rock/metal in the recent three albums. "In Absentia" is my favourite, and is as good a start as any, though their music has pop-ish elements in a few of those songs.

"Fear of a Blank Planet" is a concept album following a teenager in the 21st century who has no identity, no focus, no goals, and how modern culture influences this in today's teenagers. It continues to explore his life for the the first four tracks, with the last two focusing on the 'way out' (accurately being called "Way Out of Here" and "Sleep Together" - referring to suicide, rather than sex). It sounds emo-ish, and some might agree the lyrics are in this disc, but it is done in a way you won't care.

At any rate, the concert was fantastic. The bass player looked stoned the entire time, which was amusing. Just standing there with a silly grin on his face... A projector up the back played music videos to the songs and random images relating to the lyrics and tracks as well. Besides the guy behind me smoking pot and the smoke drifting in my direction - never realized how much it stinks until tonight - it was better than I hoped for on their first Australian tour.

So, any stories/concerts to share/rave about?

    Awesome!

Best experience I had was back a few years ago, I went to Sevendust, Nonpoint, Wicked Wisdom, and someone else in the Budwieser True Music Series.

Wicked Wisdom, for being ... wossername... Will Smith's wife's band, was actually pretty cool. Nonpoint was utter awesome live. AND I won this raffle at the door and got to meet Sevendust. Completely and utterly the most awesome thing I'd ever done.

Ive been to see Breaking Benjamin live three or four times now. The first time was with Seether and Smile Empty Soul, whose autograph I have. The latest time was Three Days Grace and ... Seether I think. BB is complete win live. One of my favorite bands.

I've never seen BB live but some of their stuff is complete win. Went to see Snow Patrol live last year. Epic night. Muse are by far the best live band in the world.

Oxegen is coming up in the summer. Will be one epic weekend.

I'm jealous, BB live would be epic. I'm not a concert person but a while back I only missed out by about 4 people on getting tickets to a Weird Al concert, would have been awesome :(.

I went to see Damian Marley when he came with Buju Banton and Stephen Marley in 04(05?)... I was the only white guy there and apparently the only non stoner as well. Good music (ignore Welcome to Jamrock), but damn if I didn't get a few odd looks.

Also went to see Tony Wylie and Island when they came here last month. Nice Soca sound and a few Raga songs but again with being the only paleface. Fortunately I know Tony's brother so we hung out after the show. They've all got a good sense of humor but damn if I couldn't understand but about half of what they were saying. Fucking Trinis.

Hmmm, I've been to several over the past few years. Lets see the only major moment that anyone around here would find amusing (aside from me mentioning all the topless chicks...) would be that the last concert I went to, Family Values tour this past summer, I got my nose broken (by a 250 pound fat ass who ran away like a little bitch) within 2 hours of showing up as I tried to stay out of the moshpit.

For those of you talking about seeing BB live, the one time I saw them I was rather trashed but I remember them kicking some major ass. Also for those of you who get the chance I would highly recommend going to see Shinedown if you ever get the chance, they put on an awesome show.

I saw Alice Cooper last year. For a 59 year old, he put on quite the amazing show. I got the ticket free, so I went, but I only knew the one song really well (that being 'Poison'). I enjoyed it more for the show than the music, but yeah. Can't believe he still wears all that makeup at his ages (Ozzy Osbourne too).

About BB; isn't one of the band members afraid of riding on planes or something? I read that somewhere and that's why BB doesn't tour outside America.

Iunno, but I completely concur. I am "Paralyzed with Fear" deathly afraid of heights. Vash on a plane? Right. I'd sooner ignore a day-care center. <_< Hello Kitty my ass.

I went to see Underoath in Sydney a couple of months before I left for Denmark and it was insane. The next morning I had insane amounts of bruises and a split eyebrow - the signs of a wicked fun mosh. There was a guy who kept crowd surfing, getting removed by security then coming back and crowd-surfing again. One of the best nights of my life.

Also, Denmark has the Roskilde Music Festival. Jenkins has ticket to said Festival. For those who have heard of it you should understand my excitment. For those who haven't...a week of sex, drugs, alcohol and incredibly good music.

Sydney Big Day Out 2008 25th January.

    Rage Against the Machine
    Hilltop Hoods
    Anti-Flag
    Grinspoon
    Silverchair (They were shit unfortunately)

    Plus many more http://www.bigdayout.com/lineup/artists.php/lineup/artists.php

Suffice to say I doubt I will ever have a better moment in my life than being in the front and centre of the Rage Against the Machine mosh. My life is complete now that I have seen RATM live, up close within bottle throwing distance, i.e. Silverchair, who were so shit Daniel John got pelted with bottles.

I'm not surprised, really. Their latest album was alright for two or three listens, but now I can't stand five seconds of it. Give me the Neon Ballroom and Diorama days anytime.

I would add that I saw Spicks & Specks live (Australian music game show), but can't really call that a concert.

I'm going to see Iron Maiden in July. It'll be the second time I've seen them and damn if they aren't a great show. I love the music, yeah, but Bruce Dickenson is as much a stageman as Freddy Mercury ever was... though probably less gay.

Cost a bomb to get the tickets though, had me watching the clock like a hawk for when the phone lines opened. Fastest call ever.

You could tell Daniel John had totally sold out, he was acting like the biggest faggot on stage putting on this gay American accent which didn't suit him at all. Also sounded like he had no balls. They used to be pretty good, now their sound just sounds like any stand pop-rock out there. The cover of freak that they did was horrible as well. Every single solo he did was just random noise as well. I sat down and leant against the D barricade for the whole time they played same with a lot of other people, waiting for Rage.

Rage was fucking hectic, 50,000 people crammed into an areana, we were lucky to get into the mosh D area during Grinspoon to watch the Hilltop Hoods and stayed there from then on.

I'd love to go watch Spicks and Specks live, same with the Chaser, but S&S would be funner most likely. The Glass House would've been the best, until well, you know, the ABC got gay.

I hate you. I fucking hate you. I really fucking hate you.

Maiden is the only living band I really want to see, and I can't seem to get to a single bloody show.

Best band I've seen live was Lamb of God; absolutely amazing band. Moshing was amazing, music was fucking awesome - just as good as their studio albums - and I managed to avoid the wall of death. I do have limits. Lordi puts on a good show, even if their music isn't quite as good. Never underestimate the power of pyrotechnics and costuming. Sort of like Gwar, but without the pig's blood.

    Oh...Been to Ozzfest too.

Second Stage was were it was at for most of the time I was there. Manson and Disturbed was fuckin awesome, Korn was shit (could barely hear the vocals over the music), No Datsuns where I was, and while I like Chevelle, they are NOT a band I care for live.

But Shadows Fall. Grade 8, Hot Wire... fuckin lots of good bands. Momento... meh... Christian band. <_<

Shadows Fall I've seen; they were reasonably good, but the live show didn't quite measure up. I still like them, but I wouldn't see them again.

    Two questions though:
    Is Chimaira any good live?
    and
Has Cradle of Filth always sucked live, or is that a recent occurence?

I went to a lot of shows back before grunge was cool--Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden were all born in Seattle.

The best show I've ever been to was the Grateful Dead in May 1995--my college roommate gave me his ticket because he had other shit to do that day, and he figured that with as much as the Dead toured he'd just catch them some other time.

It ended up being one of the last GD concerts, because Jerry Garcia died in August.

Worst show I've ever been to was Lilith Fair... don't ask.

Saw 3DD live years back. Was with 12 Stones and Theory of a Dead Man. Awesome show. I work at the college (now, my mum worked for them then.) they were playin at and since I had shit all to do I just sat up at Kirkland Fine Arts Center that day and pretty much just slacked off and hung out with lead dude from 12 Stones till my mums shift sended.

    Awesome.

Recent, when I saw them at Ozzfest they were pretty awesome. Chimera was one of the best performances that night. Out-performed Korn and Disturbed I thought.
