Started today, now on episode 5. Awesome ponies are awesome. Not planning on looking at the fandom, though.

 

All the decent MLP fics I've found so far:

Progress by Andrew Joshua Talon. Luna has to deal with life now that she isn't stuck in the moon. Top notch humor, at least for the first few chapters. Has a 4.8 on the review board

Fallout: Equestria by Kkat. Fallout + Ponies = awesome, to a certain degree. Cutie marks of flayed cadavers, ray beams that reduce stuff to sparkly pink ash, and billboards declaring 'Pinkie Pie is watching you FOREVER!'. It follows some pretty decent OC's, but the best parts of the story follow what happened to the original crew from FiM, and how they were responsible for the end of the world.

Any good ones I'm missing?

 

Well, if we're discussing MLP fanfics one must mention Cupcakes, since it is pretty much the most (in)famous MLP:FiM fanfic to date. It's a nice little lighthearted tale where Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie make cupcakes together.

And then Pinkie goes crazy and tortures Dash to death.

I personally didn't care for it, but you probably can't spend five minutes looking through MLP fanfiction without hearing it referred to by somebody. Some of the spinoff/sequel/alternate ending stories are pretty good too.

 

Cupcakes is the MLP version of the Office, for a decent analogue.

 

I like how the heroin graph makes a middle finger, while the alcohol one makes the rock-on horns, seems appropriate.

Also, this is adorable; it started auction at $1, and as of right now is at $1,060. Nuts.

I'm awaiting the major butthurt backlash from fanon.

 

Damn it. I have to go out now, so MLP will have to wait. Is it bad that I'd prefer to stay home and watch cartoon ponies rather than go out for a drink?

 

I don't think we're going to have much objection from folks who liked the fanon version of her; overall, she's pretty close to the fanon version.

Really, the biggest difference between fanon and canon was that canon Luna's awkwardness mostly consisted of sticking to 1000-year-old royal protocol. That, and being a touch more prone to "You're going to LOVE ME!" moments, which just makes sense considering why she became Nightmare Moon in the first place.

I'm vaguely annoyed by the lack of Rarity in this episode (understandable as it is with Rarity and Luna sharing a voice actress), since you would expect to see Rarity in an impressively pimped-out Halloween costume.

 

Rarity was the sheet-ghost.

 

Eh... I didn't really like the last episode. Mostly it was Luna that bothered me. Her speech was aggravating (the "thees" and "thous" were a little overdone, and I'm not sure if they were even used properly in some cases) and I don't really get why she's so behind. What the hell has she been doing since the first episodes? Wouldn't Celestia have filled her in a little that they don't speak like that anymore, at the very least? Plus I can't stand it when a character, any character in any series, says "I don't know what fun is." God, that's such bullshit.
