For me it'd have to be:

    Harry Potter
    Dresden Files
    Buffy the Vampire Slayer
    Pokemon
    Lord of the Rings

    Hmm. Nice thread.

!.Harry Potter.(Just love the whole idea behind it and can usually meet someone in person to discuss it with.)

@.Wheel of Time.(Can also find someone else to discuss it with. Though, I do wish the series had a stronger fanfiction base to it.)

#.Evangelion(God, I can't not help but love the series to death. So complex! That and I've never seen a better ratio of good shit/bad shit than in this one. Also one of the older fanfictions fandoms online; I can always find real old gems, circa 95-99, and most be well-written. The Mary-Sueism from then have been taken down, except for NXE.)

$.Mass Effect. (Good potential and good fiction. Loving the rewrites of ME2 right now.)

%.Star Wars. (Not much of a fan of the EU, I think most suck and consider them above par fanfiction, but I do love the various games. Especially, from Bioware.)

I'm mostly a big Harry Potter, Pokemon and Stargate guy, but I've ventured out into Doctor Who and Buffy/Angel lately. So I guess they're my five.

TBH, I just stick to HP and Evangelion. Only two that I regularly go to. I sometimes venture to other fandoms but mostly when I've just read something new. For example, I might start reading some Death Note FF after I've finished reading the series.

Any links to share? I only got into Eva FF about 2 months ago so I don't find all too many awesome ones.

    Why yes I do.

Here is a good place with two classics. HERZ and Redemption.

Also, the person that maintains it also has a very entertaining fic from Gendo's POV. Taking Sights. Not old, per se, but still great.

    Don't forget a light-hearted romance.

And, the classic Children of an Elder God. Of them all at least read this one and Taking Sights.

Good reading. Need any other recc's just PM me.

In terms of fanfiction, I only really read Harry Potter, with the occasional voyage into unfamiliar waters - a bit of Firefly here, bit of Dresden there, etc.

In terms of fandoms that I can sit down and have a geek-out over with people, whether online or off...(in no particular order)

    1. Harry Potter, obviously - while the books themselves aren't exactly masterpieces, and the films are very mixed, the world is fantastic, it's great fun, and it's fun to play with in fanfiction.

    2. Buffy/Angel (to the extent that I'm partly writing my dissertation on Angel!) It's brilliantly written, clever (at times, at least) funny as hell, and just generally awesome. I'd say I prefer Angel at the moment, but I've been watching it more recently than Buffy.

    3. Discworld - the series that got me into fantasy, really. Moving Pictures was one of the first non kids books I ever read, and I haven't looked back.

    4. Firefly - pretty much the same reasons as Buffy/Angel, but more so.

    5. Star Wars - a massive part of my childhood, and an epic universe. I've given up on the EU recently though, halfway through the Legacy series. I just couldn't be bothered to work through a repeat of episodes 1-3, and they killed off/ruined my two favourite characters.

Honourable mention for Doctor Who, at least since 2005. My knowledge of classic!Who is sadly lacking. Dresden Files is creeping in, but I'm not as well versed in it as others yet.

Harry Potter- As people have said the world is fantastic and has a lot of potential.
Naruto- Interesting manga, a multitude of characters and an engaging story. There are also plenty of fanfics for Naruto as well.
Dresden Files- Interesting world, magic, characters. I can't say more, Dresden is simply awesome.
Pokemon- Thanks to the Sun Soul and the remakes of Gold and Silver I am a pokemon fan once more.
Lord of the Rings- Haven't read much LoTR fanfics that aren't HP crossovers, but LOTR is one of the first books I really read for leisure and enjoyed doing so.

    I spit hot fire!

Anyways, in all seriousness, HP is the only fanfiction I read.
There are a lot of other books I have read over the years, from LoTR, to forgotten realms, MTG novels, Merlin series, but I have never read a fanfiction based solely on any of those.

I just love the HP series so much that I don't think anything could replace it as my favorite.

However, I could see myself getting involved and possible writing my own fanfiction in other universes. They would most likely be based off video games and not books though.

    1.) Harry Potter
    2.) Firefly
    3.) Dresden
    4.) BtVS
    5.) Stargate

Pretty much the only 5 fandoms I follow to any degree, so it fills out the requirements of this thread quite nicely :p

Huh. I wasn't aware that anyone on this forum besides me actually liked Chuck. What Fates Impose was shaping up nicely the last time I checked, I'll rec some in the other fandoms thread too.

As for my five, they don't have any particular order:

    (1) Star Wars
    (2) Warhammer
    (3) Harry Potter
    (4) Chuck
    (5) Dresden

    1. Harry Potter - no explanations required.

    2. BTVS/ATS - Fantastic source material, if spotty in later seasons (especially for those with low tolerance for angst) and some great fanfics. I wish authors concentrated more on the potential this world has instead of shipping and crossovers, but we can't have everything.

    3. LoTR - Don't no any good fics about this series, but the quality of the source material makes up for it.

    4. Naruto - Never got into the source material, but I've read many entertaining fics about it.

    5. The Chronicles of Narnia- Purely for nostalgia's sake.

Hmm, mine at this point would probably be:

    1) Dresden Files - The only fics I actively look forward to reading are Dresden fics. None of them are offsite.
    2) Harry Potter - Still enjoy a few good fics, and there are always the old comedy classics like nonjon's work.
    3) Naruto - I've seen pretty much every permutation of HP fanfic out there, getting there with Naruto.
    4) Stargate - It's not a fandom that actively holds my interest, but some stories (such as Stargate: 1939) are too crazy awesome to ignore.
    5) Buffy/Angel - Mostly crossovers with various other fandoms (most are crap, but there are a few gems), but there are a couple of decent non-cross fics.

Honorable mention goes to Children of an Elder God from the NGE fandom, the various Pokemon fics we've acquired and Star Wars (the only one I've really enjoyed is the Son of Suns trilogy, though I'm still working through it).

    Hmm, interesting topic...

    1. Harry Potter - for obvious reasons.

    2. The Dresden Files - ironically, it was not Shezza's stuff that got me into this series. A very different plotline, and arguably one of the most ambitious I've seen in a very long time, but I still think they're fucking fantastic.

    3. Star Wars - my first fanverse (seriously, I've still got a 125,000 word Star Wars fanfic lurking in the depths of my hard drive that I'm fairly certain is appallingly terrible). Shame there are so few quality fics in that universe - I've had trouble finding one that didn't massively piss me off in some way, shape, or form.

    4. Warhammer 40k - because the few fanfics in this universe done right are fucking awesome. Nothing more needs to be said.

    5. Tie between Pokémon and Stargate SG-1 - when you find the gems, they tend to make up for everything.

    In no particular order:

    1. Harry Potter - good selection of quality fics and I like the premise.

    2. Naruto - see above.

    3. Code Geass - one of the best anime's hands down, pity there's so few quality fics here.

    4. Black Lagoon - found only a couple of half-way decent fics in this fandom, a shame since it's one of my favorite anime/manga.

    5. Firefly - thanks goes to authors like Peptuck and Dyce and their creations.

Naruto: I don't actually like the series that much, but I was drawn to it because the fandom is huge, and it's fun to play around with.

Harry Potter: I didn't like the books after the fourth one that much. Again, I mostly like Harry Potter because the fandom is so large and there's lots of decent reading material.

The Discworld Series: I love all of Pratchett's books - I don't read fics for Discworld, though. I've got enough canon to keep me happy and I don't particularly want to read anything where the characterisation is off.

Hellsing: I loved the series, but haven't found any decent fics for Hellsing.

Code Geass: Easily the best anime I've watched in a long time, but again no fics.

Mostly Harry Potter and Naruto. I started out reading fanfiction with Ranma 1/2 a little over 10 years ago, and while it will always occupy a spot in my heart, the fandom is pretty much dead right now. It was hugely popular around 1999-2004 or so, but then it just slowly died off.

Dresden is awesome, but aside from DLP's own Dresden fics, there aren't too many good ones out there.

I read crossovers occasionally when I'm in the mood and sometimes branch out into other less popular anime series, but for the most part those are distractions. The only real fandoms I read consistently right now are HP and Naruto.

    Harry Potter
    Naruto
    Bleach(though very rarely now)
Artemis Fowl (I have no idea why but I am addicted to this series)
Cowboy Bebop ( The only reason I have ever watched any anime is when I realized how compelling a story an anime could tell and this series made me realize that)

Then it's a massive, massive drop. The difference between regular checking for updates and writing my own stuff, however infrequently... and reading a few stories during a burst of inspiration but not really giving a shit about the wider fanverse.

    Pokemon
    Firefly
    Buffy

And oddly enough, the best two series I've read are in fandoms I have no further interest in, outside of the stories in question. The massive Animorph series, 'Neomorphs' is awesome, and Blank101's trilogy for Star Wars.
