I suppose it does sound a bit.....odd.. But that is only if you don't know anything about WH40K.
Which admittedly, I know nothing about. But I'd still advise you not to bash a decent story, even if you don't understand it.

P.S. Please, please capitalize all of your "I"s.

Do you know about the Warhammer 40K universe? Kyuubi being the sword of mankind in no way makes him a good guy. Neither does him being against chaos. What I know of Warhammer 40K paints it as a very dark universe, where the only good you're likely to get is the lesser of a very large number of evils.

Check out some of the stuff on Red elf. It loads slowly, but they are an amazingly comprehensive collection of 40K lore.

I know the world very well. It's a dark world filled with demons and more demons and humans are being hunted down like animals. Yet they fight.

It's just that, the idea of a nine tailed demon, created by the human malice by ages past is being, ironically enough to help the humans against actual demons and dark gods. llol

I like the evil fox who doesn't help unless forced to. Still, I think i'm gonna try out the story if you guys refer it so much.

True. But don't jump to conclusions. I haven't read it yet (Bookmarked it in my 'To be read folder, along with about 500 other stories...), but I doubt that he will be all that happy about helping his creators out.

My issue was more about how you only said something that came across as "I hate it!!" and without a reason why. It's perfectly alright to dislike the premise of a story, just try to explain the reason.

I don't know anything about WH40K, so I doubt I'll get very far into the story, but I'll give it a try.

meh i was too lazy to correct that lol. It's just that the word sword rubs me the wrong way. The sword of something, be it light, dark whatever, it gets old quickly. Especially since it was used by the fandom of Harry Potter so much it stopped reading ff.net for half a year.

It's already been posted methinks, though that may have been on ADD, not here. Still, it's a pretty cool fic. I've been following it since I first found it and the author writes a pretty convincing story. Apart from the mistake of including the shoggoth, which has already admitted sent the wrong message, the plot has been great and it's just getting to a part I have been waiting for for months.

On a side note, his Hinata and Sasuke are awesome compared to 99% of the shit out there.

According to reviews given to the author the whole shadow-y, inconsistent fashion the shaggoth was presented in annoyed a heck of a lot of people. This really confuses me as I liked how the author went about with this. What's everyone else's opinion?

I found it pretty interesting to say the least, but I didn't quite understand where it was coming from at times. I mean, I didn't know what a shoggoth was until he finally described it in detail. Stuff like that. I don't get the references. :/

On a side note, reading some of Nugar's comments on Naruto's upbringing on TFF helped me put some things into perspective.

For anyone that has no clue what Sporangia was talking about I give you Nugar's comments. Enjoy.

Urgh. I've been massively sick lately, like I was face raped by Nurgle.

So, my thought on this was kind of a mix of a lot of these.

Naruto was abused badly. As Ibiki said, he seemed to most identifiy with his attacker, seeing the ability to hurt someone as having power. Since he'd been hurt, and certainly didn't want to be hurt any more, he would most likely choose to hurt other people.

You see that a lot in children of abusive parents. If a child is abused, they're most likely to grow up and abuse others.

Ibiki agreed with letting Naruto watch, and then help, torture the man to death, because it gave him a quick and easy handle on the boy. Naruto had identified with the man first, but then transferred his awe to Ibiki, who was demonstratably more powerful. So Naruto started to emulate Ibiki. Ibiki both encouraged and discouraged that. He encouraged it because he needed Naruto to pay attention and do the things he was supposed to, like learn, and not do the things he wasn't supposed to, like hurt his classmates.

But at the same time, Ibiki is well aware that he, himself, is not the perfect ninja. Ibiki is a bent man who found the perfect niche for himself. He's very useful to the village, but he'll never rise above that station. Doesn't even really want to. He's found a place that he fits, and that's a valuable thing to have, indeed.

Hey, I LIKE Ibiki. I think there's a lot of interesting things that can be done with him. But my vision of the man is pretty dark. I figure he had a decent but cold childhood, grew into a man, then, through a combination of ruthless intent, accident, and incident, found his way into the darkest aspects of ninja life and discovered he fit. He's been tortured, at least once professionally, probably a couple of times more casually. Field work, that kind of thing.

So Ibiki is trying to mold Naruto into the perfect ninja. It's like the idea of 'being raised to be the perfect weapon', except without the extreme focus on killing all emotions. Sarutobi didn't like that idea, and Ibiki thought it was flawed from the very beginning. Ninja have to have something that drives them, something they care about more than anything. Otherwise you get a bunch of Nara, a flawed group if there ever was one. All the talent in the world with a level of ambition suitable for a blade of grass.

With Naruto, Ibiki convinced him to... ah, but that would be telling.

Bah, to hell with it. There's a reason I've never had Naruto's specific goals mentioned in the fic. Hinata knows them, Sasuke doesn't, yet, and I was going to have the revelation come in the next few odd chapters. I just wanted a sufficient build up.

Naruto wants to be Hokage.

...yeah, I know, big revelation, right? But I wanted it to actually mean something. Hinata wants to be leader of her clan so she can use its massive financial and political power to support him. That's also why they wanted Sasuke. Though his clan is decimated, the Uchiha still have a lot of leftover glory, and Sasuke looks to be adding to it. (at least in * Lie he is).

Ibiki encouraged Naruto to shoot for the loftiest postion in the village to encourage him to be nothing less than absolutely perfect. The hokage can't have any embarassing skeletons in his closet like a hushed up incident when he was young where a classmate who'd picked on him was found in thirty pieces scattered through the village.

There was this complete assumption behind the scenes that Naruto would never be able to make it that far, but no one told him. The people who would have told him didn't know that that was his ambition, and the others felt it prudent not to.

Ibiki was given a lot of leeway in his manipulation of Naruto. He was trying to mold him as he saw fit, because Ibiki is very good at recognizing what traits a good ninja should have. But I don't think he's very good at instilling all those traits, since he, himself, doesn't have all of them. Like friendship and trust and love. Sarutobi finally stepped in, and that's when Naruto got his own apartment.

I should really do some of this stuff in flashbacks to show what happened. Just more stuff to show, I guess.

I figure the timeline goes something like this.

Initial incident, plus killing the guy.
Naruto moves in with Ibiki, so Ibiki can keep a sharp eye on him. Probably a fair amount of checking up by Sarutobi, too.
Anko is encouraged to come around now and then as a beneficial feminine influence.

Time passes, call it a year or so. Naruto spends a lot of time with Ibiki at work. He's given a lot of scrolls to read, or sometimes sent out to practice things either by himself or with others, but always watched. Ibiki instills a lot of ideas in him during this time, notably the ambition to become a jounin. Naruto, being a child, decides to go for more than jounin, to go for hokage. Everyone concerned knows that he doesn't have the right mindset for Hokage, but they don't trash his dreams. He is encouraged to keep it a secret, thought.

To help conceal some of his more notiably odd tendancies, Naruto is encouraged by Ibiki to hide himself in plain sight. Naruto, again, being a child, carries this further than originally intended, becoming quite the prankster and idiot in public, even as he gets more and more serious in private. This is also the point Naruto goes to the academy. Ibiki does his best to not squish every original idea Naruto has, but he's also very keen on influencing him. Study habits, training habits, personal habits. Cleanliness and organization and dedicated study of a wide variety of topics. He's also instilled nearly jounin levels of paranoia in the boy through day to day games.

Which tube of toothpaste has the poison in it, and other childrens games. That kind of thing.

Call it another year. People start noticing that Naruto, the real Naruto, is getting odder and odder. Ibiki has tried to explain to Naruto exactly what he's doing, pointing out how he, Ibiki, manipulates other people, their reactions, how to read and influence those reactions. He also messes with Naruto to teach Naruto to recognize and reply to mind games. Through all this, Naruto gets the mistaken impression that all of the really smart, powerful adults do this kind of stuff. Ibiki is pretty good, most of the time. But he very much believes in the carrot AND the stick approach. Carrots are things like time spent personally teaching him, and the stick is punishment of various types. But Ibiki is a little too harsh, and Naruto develops a nearly crippling fear of disappointing him or Sarutobi.

Again, I've seen this kind of thing in real life. Kids, and adults, I've known who seem so normal a lot of the time, only they turn out to have issues with their parents, usually a father, where they're incredibly afraid of them. Sometimes it drives them to be competative as hell, other times apathetic.

Sarutobi realizes that Naruto isn't flourishing as much as hoped under Ibiki. While it's no question that the boy is bright and gifted, he's stunted emotionally. Ibiki agrees without fuss, and it's decided that Naruto will get his own apartment in an effort to make him bond with other people.

Naruto spends a while living on his own, occasionally visiting and visted by Ibiki, Anko, and Sarutobi, but never makes any friends on his own.

Ibiki decides to confront Naruto about it, starting the events of People Lie.

Throughout all of this, it's agreed that Naruto's development is too important to leave to chance. Naruto is perceptive enough to realize that he's being watched nearly all of the time, and it shapes every thing he does. In an attempt to not stunt the boy, they don't punish every single mistake he makes, but Naruto is always working under the assumption that he's being judged. He also has developed a conviction that jounin always know more than they're letting on, and when they, like Gai for instance, don't act on something Naruto assumes they know, he wonders what game they're playing at.

Now, Gai ISN'T a fool, but he doesn't necessarily know everything there is to know about Naruto's plan, or even the existence of it. Naruto figures he at least knows that Naruto has an agenda.

Ibiki on the other hand, does keep track of Naruto's little plots, as much as he can, and informs Sarutobi of his progress.

Raising a child to be a weapon hasn't historically worked out well for either the child or the others, but raising a child to be a good ninja happens every day. In a better world, perhaps Naruto could have gotten a better parent, but you work with what you have.

Now, let me know if this idea sucks, so I can retcon it.

I usually like keeping this stuff a secret, but sometimes, like with the mess I'm in with the plot to beat up Neji, it gets me in trouble.

Ahh, thanks Kalas. I was waiting for that sequel for a long, long time. So glad it's out. He has at least 16 chapters of that done, I'm surprised he hasn't uploaded all of them, since I know that chapter wasn't betaed. Jiraiya kept getting misspelled. >_>
