Yea I can't agree with you more. I honestly don't watch the anime at all anymore because it almost makes me start to dislike One Piece the way they portray it.

Naruto's anime even with the fillers they have is handled way better than One Piece's anime which is a shame for OP's anime.

Like the way Naruto's anime handled Obito's speeches kinda makes me not hate him as much as I did in the manga because he just kept going on and on repeating the same shit over and over. It felt a lot more succinct and to the point in the anime and did it a lot more justice.

I like it more that Luffy's stupidity is an actual part of his character and not just something the author uses for comic relief or to throw in an explanation. He's not stupid one moment and then outsmarting people with decades of more experience the next.

Kishi actually managed to give him more bijuu to buff his skillset. Shukaku for Magnet release and fuinjutsu for example.

 

Borderline? I think that gives Luffy too much credit. He has his own surprising insight (as required of all such protagonists, of course) but he is much closer to 'full' on the retard scale than Naruto is.

Honestly, Luffy's retardation was one of the things that nearly broke One Piece for me. Thankfully, the amount of ass he kicked made up for that, somewhat.

 

I had a weird dream where himawari inherited stuff from Naruto and could use a bunch of elemental fusions.

 

Luffy's stupidity is mostly for gags. He has a very well developed character throughout the series, and pretty much forces everyone around him to develop as a character too.

He's like the Anti-DBZ in that way. Every character is relevant, and Luffy straight out forces his crew to pick up slack and fight. The difference in Usopp, for example, is probably the most obvious. His character is still essentially the same, but as the series went on he became more and more and more.


I highly recommend One Piece to anyone who likes manga, and has a week or two to spend reading it.

The Whitebeard's War arc alone is worth reading the series for. It's probably the single best story arc I've ever read.

I hate the art style. It's abhorrently terrible and offensive to my eyes.

 

You know....the art style is what actually kept me away from One Piece (for about 4 yrs.), so I know what you mean. But then Naruto started to get real shitty and I needed something new; and OP was there.

The story MORE THAN makes up for for the art style, believe me.

 

That's very true, it is awful. It does get better though.

 

Oda's style is definitely strange at first glance; that's what some people are turned off from, and it's a bit choppy in the beginning arcs. But once you get to about volume 10 his art style is really starts to get better, and at this point it's excellent. I agree that his character designs are odd, but where he really excels is the detail. He draws amazing environments and buildings; some characters wear outfits that must takes hours to draw. I highly recommend it. You never get the sense that Oda is just making shit up as he goes along that I always felt Kishi and Kubo were. Stuff you see in the first few volumes are actually things that become important dozens of volumes later. Oda's comedic timing is great and there are genuine moments of hilarity as well as some of the saddest manly tears inducing stuff you'll read.

There's about 2 extra pages from The Last's guidebook which shows Naruto and Hinata on their first date. All I can find right now are the original scans, not the translations. I'll try and see if I can find where I viewed the english translations.

Off the top of my head, i think my top 3 are:

3: Jiraiya (& Tsunade) vs Orochimaru

2: Naruto vs Pein

1: Kakashi vs Zabuza.

That last one might seem odd to have as a number on, but I like it because everytime I look at it from a logical standpoint, there so many layers to that fight, unintentional from kishimoto or not. The only thing that kind of taints it is how Kakashi faints from Sharingan overuses, something that never happens again and is basically contradicted in their next fight.

3. Itachi vs Sasuke

 

Basically this. I'm trying to think of a more suitable replacement to number 3, because I'm pretty sure there are some, but I can't think right now.

 

To me anything that happened after Naruto vs Pein doesn't exist. Coz faggotry.
