Yeah. That part of the chapter was just downright painful.

I mean, I get that it's Naruto, but fuck, the guy needs to grow up already. Sasuke is a traitor, he left (damn near) three years ago. It's about fucking time he actually accepted that.

Orochimaru's experiments for Danzou's right eye and arm? Huh, interesting.

Maybe Sasuke will be getting a beatdown soon.

The only good thing about this chapter was The Kages and Danzou. For an old warhawk who has poor characterization in fanon. He is strangely competent.:awesome

You're looking at it all wrong.

Naruto isn't privy to all the rotten shit Sasuke has gotten up to. All he knows is hearsay from Karui. He's acting as a Leaf shinobi is expected to - just as the other ninja acted when Pain tried to divulge Naruto's whereabouts from them.

Naruto isn't being immature. He's the mature one. He's acting on his decision to end the cycle of hatred. And in case you haven't noticed, he's saving the lives of Team Samui by not sending them off to their deaths against Sasuke.

The fact is that Naruto is protecting Sasuke not from those ninja who are trying to kill him - they'd fail miserably - but from his own evil actions that would preclude him once and for all from ever being redeemed.

Naruto will deal with Sasuke, but as of right now he's handling the situation properly. I agree that the "beat me up" bit was a little simplistic, but it's not reflecting poorly on his character that he's taking it like a man, it's reflecting poorly on Karui for doing the beating.

    Pretty much this.

Mizukage as a hottie, sweeto. Even if Kishimoto apparently had to give all of the Kages a 'quirk' that's apparently a major part of their personality. Bleh.

And Danzo's gonna get body-revived? Hmm, maybe he'll put up a fight after all. Since he's the Hokage already, or is he commanding ninjas and wearing Hokage robes and hat all for show? Probably not.

I really hoped Naruto would 'sell out' Sasuke. This is so gay. First we have uber!Sage!Naruto beating down fucking Pein, and now he's taking a sissy beatdown from some random kumo nin. Rip that head apart, you pussy.

    Edit:
Gah, you're reading far too much into this, and are probably correct as usual. However mature and 'right' that decision might be, being a 'punching bag' and a 'sacrifice' for the world never appealed to me any. And Naruto just looks so pathetic doing it.

    Yeah, <3 Mizukage.

Howdy, don't get me wrong. I'm no Sasuke hater, actually, I like the whole redemption thing Naruto and Sasuke have got going on, but that scene still made me cringe. I see how his new beliefs are playing out but inviting physical beating...well, like I said- made me cringe.

Danzou has given orders to eliminate Sasuke and the Raikage is none too happy with the missing-nin either.

Isn't Naruto acting to his own philosophy more so than to how a Leaf nin should in dealing with an enemy of the village?

Acting as a 'ninja of the leaf' means following the orders of the Hokage; Uchiha Sasuke -Missing Ninja.
We all know why Naruto didn't sell out Sasuke - He's keeping his word to 'change the cycle of hatred', still thinks of Sasuke as a brother and is apparently trying to protect the cloud nin from retribution from friends who might not let killing Sasuke go unpunished (his own words). I don't think he was trying to protect the cloud nin from Sasuke himself, thats reaching a bit given what was said and what generally happens in this manga.

In any case, Sasuke's a traitor. And now he's one officially thanks to Danzou. Sakumo was condemned and had to commit ritual suicide to regain his honor for not following orders and SAVING his comrades. I don't wanna hear any 'Konoha goodness' nonsense when it comes to a willing traitor.

Mizukage's hot though the 'Bloody Mist' wasn't quite what i expected. Oh yeah, someone mentioned this earlier but I don't think she's the Mizukage Zabuza tried to off, i think it was Madara.

I think we can assume one of the following:

    A) The kage who committed gruesome acts (like ordering academy students to butcher each other) are long dead; they couldn't maintain their power, so the current kage don't reflect how the nations were years ago.

    B) Mizukage and Tsuchikage are more vicious/ambitious than they seem

    C) Kishimoto doesn't give a fuck about previous conflicts and doesn't care if the current kage don't really make any sense.

But either way, I'm glad we're finally seeing the countries, too long has this story been trapped in Konoha.

I'm not sure I liked the kages very much. It is nice to see into the other countries, but they seem a bit too... cartoonish. They're obviously going to whip out some major whoopass later, but they seem a little overdone in this chapter.

Maybe it's just because we only got a few glimpses, so I'll reserve judgement, but I'm uneasy.

    And still, <3 Mizukage

Most likely yes. But since ninja village probably wants to control the amount of information given to outsiders, it is fair to assume that Hokage office handles the briefing and other are supposed to keep their info to themselves. In this light Naruto is indeed handling himself as he should from villages POV.

Anyway, this chapter made me hopeful of seeing more Anko in future. Please, let it happen.

    Um...

Who's Naruto more likely to follow here? Sarutobi (Hokage), Minato (Hokage), Tsunade (Hokage), Jiraiya (mentor), Nagato ("big brother" who sacrificed his life for Naruto's dream), or Danzou (asshole)?

What? Those other characters' opinions don't matter because they're dead or in a coma? That's why Naruto is acting the way he is. It's his job to carry on their philosophy.

    A) Madara? Danzou? These guys aren't dead. And if you're looking for the guy who came up with the "Bloody Mist" look no further. Madara and his wannabe clone Danzou.

    B) This Mizukage probably isn't the one that was behind even a fraction of the shit that went on in Kiri. That was most likely Madara and then his successor (captain shakes-a-lot?)'s doing. The current Mizukage is probably newly installed given her sucking up to the old dude.

And as far the way these people are portrayed - let's look at history.

Sarutobi - Super nice guy who had the Uchiha clan wiped out super-nicely.

Raikage - Protective older brother who's loved by his subordinates. Oh, and also orders little girls kidnapped so that he can rip out their eyes / turn them into baby factories.

Hanzou - Powerful leader of Ame who was loved by all, except for when he double-crosses the progressive faction in his country, in which case he uses defenseless women and traps to cut down the opposition.

Tsuchikage - Pissed off Minato, and that was probably hard to do given his temperament.

Kazekage - Sacrificed his wife to seal a bijuu into his son and then proceeded to try to have the son assassinated.

Mizukage - We don't know specifically what shit she's done, but in recent times there's been a bloodline purge, a daimyo assassination, an attempted coup, and that fun tradition of forcing children to murder their friends.

Kishimoto has seemingly abandoned the style of painting a character's true colors all over them. Folks like Hidan, Kakuzu, and Orochimaru are gone by the wayside in favor of "sneaky evil" characters like Madara, Danzou, and even Pain.

Frankly I'm happy to say goodbye to the two-dimensional villains from Part 1 and the beginning of Part 2.

    C) Complex characters. This shouldn't really have to be pointed out after the Pain arc, but whatever. Things aren't always what they appear to be.

I know what you're saying Howdy, but this is shounen. I don't anticipate these minor characters to have much depth. They're too eccentric for my tastes, though maybe I judged them too early - they've only had a panel each - but I don't know if I like the Tsuchikage or the Mizukage, those nations have been depicted as being bloodthirsty and belligerent (well, maybe not tsuchi, I can't recall what the manga's said about them)... yet their leaders look jovial and nice enough to me. And cloud did kidnap Hinata...

I'm not looking for villains, I'm looking for leaders which are more... hardened, I guess. The only one who's really appropriate is Gaara.

The only thing we really know about Tsuchi is they started a war with Konoha and, iirc, we're still mighty pissed over the beatdown Minato gave them.

To play the devil's advocate, there is also the possibility that the other villages have been demonized. Not saying all the known "facts" given are lies, but they might be exaggerations that only contain small pieces of the truth. Who knows if Tsuchi had a sympathizable reason to start the war? And who knows if Mizu had a weird justification to implement that grad process?

Hidden backgrounds have been shown to give Kishi the best excuse for flashback filler chapters...

Meh. That seems to be the topic of discussion over on TFF.

Well, personally, I'm sure that a large part of it really is the demonizing of other villages. But then again, we never know. We know for a fact that Danzo hated the teachings of the first five Hokages because of their peace-focused view. And that it wasn't bloodthirsty enough.

So we know for a fact that Konoha is quite unique in this aspect, setting it apart from the other villages.
