Man, Hanzo had so much potential. I remember reading Houses of the Holy and freaking out when Hanzo makes a giant sphere of ice water and electrifies that shit, sending out a storm of lightning shaped and charged water in all directions for a hundred meters. That was what I wanted here - A guy badass enough to own all of the Sannin at their prime, and the Professor, and probably a ton of other dudes. Instead, we get a lame old guy who chucks around poison and then dies.

But at least Mifune was good, I was wondering how the samurai could ever hope to be competitive with ninja. Quick question - If there are 80,000 ninja on the allied side, and 120,000 clone dudes on the axis side, along with all of the resurrected guys, why aren't the allies getting fucking wtfhax owned?

Don't take me wrong, I admire(-d) Hanzo just as much as the next guy, but he beat the Sannin at quite a young age. Before Orochimaru even fled. They were strong then, but far from their prime.
And the Third? Where did you see that Hanzo owned the Third? I must have missed that chapter. I seriously doubt that even Pain could own Sarutobi at his prime.

Agreed with the rest of your post. But I must stress out that from what we've seen, Hanzo is still very much alive(dead/resurrected) and in fact the slices he suffered from Mifune should have little effect on his zombie body.
Mifune should be fucked if all he can do is chop him up, since he can regenerate these slices in a seconds.

 

Hanzo beat them before they were the Sannin. That's when they became famous, for survivng. But I doubt Hanzo was on the 3rds level. The 3rd was known as the God of Shinobi in his prime and held off zombie verisons of the 1st and 2nd Hokages and Orochimaru when he was well past his prime. Even Minato was not considered a god of shinobi.

I would say the Sannin were arguably still in the prime during the series. They were older yes but the idea of Orochimaru or Jiraiya being any stronger would just be overkill. They may have been on the end of their prime but they were obviously still at the top of their game.

My dreams about Hanzo being awesomely bad ass has been shattered, though my Tsunade gained a few points in my book. She's probably the reason why her team survived against their encounter with Hanzo, not Orochimaru and not Jiraiya.

I've come up with an explanation to the recent mention of how things developed in relations to samurai ---> shinobi.

My theory is that the evolution of samurai to shinobi only really accelerated after the formation of the shinobi villages, and when the potential of such militaries versus the samurai model was shown in some random border war, the Fire Country Daimyo ordered his samurai to learn the ways of the shinobi. Cue domino effect across the Elemental Countries with each village getting influx of samurai recruits. Some samurai refused, got banished, became ronin for a while - ironically mimicking their successors - before founding Iron Country as an all samurai nation.

As for the ninja, I'm working with the assumption that they evolved out of the monks. Ninshu is a religion, remember? They probably evolved out of monks during the chaos and civil strife after the Sage died, and gradually became the militias for hire that were the feature of the clan wars. In fact, that's probably how most bloodlines developed. They might have been styles each individual monastery or brotherhood developed while following Ninshu.

 

So...umm...this may sound uncaring...but are Naruto and other manga coming out this week? I mean, what with Japan being hit the way it is... ( All the manga do come out of Japan right? >_>)

Yep...For some reason, chapter had a good feeling to it.

And there wasn't a moment when Hanzo was not Badass. People complaining about him the previous chapter were adhering to the standard-whining-Naruto-fan routine. He obviously had a ton of Ninjutsu (Just didn't get the opportunity to use em), he had badass summons, he could use poisons...'the fuck more do you need?

Also good to see that Asuma has some really good Ninjutsu atleast. ( That Hidan Vs Asuma fight sorta gave the impression Trench knife fighting was his main routine. >_>)

What I am wondering about is that all the characters seem to be getting pwned by others talking to them. So where's Naruto then? He dun need no Jutsu to do this. He would've melted Hanzou's heart in half the time it took Mifune to do so.

 

This chapter made me feel bad for raging at the last one. Dam Hanzo why couldn't you be a badass villain instead of a good guy? Here's hoping Asuma kills the fatass

Asuma fighting is cool, but I'm more than ready for some actual plot by now. This all seems fillerish, entertaining as it may be.

 

Well, Hanzo turns out to be a 'bad-ass' good guy. The whole 'tell your name in exchange for your life' and 'I'll remember you as a hero' thing, Hanzo seems to have had going through out his life. He said much the same thing to the Sannin before giving them that title. And he seems to have wanted to create lasting peace...

Glad to see Asuma using something other than his knives. But I'm finding the entire scene with Team 10 cheesy and utterly ridiculous. Asuma is actually giving them directions in the fight, telling Shikamaru to herd him towards Chouji and all so that he can get smacked. Props to Kabuto though, for leaving enough of Asuma to make life hell for Team 10 while ensuring that Asuma would still fight them.

What I really want to see is the Tsuchikage fighting and Kakashi's rampage on the seven swordsmen.

 

If Hanzou could fight off the Edo Tensei for a bit I'm wondering if other "big bad" good guys will be able to do the same.
