To be honest, quite a few last chapters were a total shit. Except few bits of random destruction all around, everything turned out either illogical or ridiculous - Gaara's mommy/daddy problems in the middle of a 'war' for their survival, Hirashin being known by a bunch of some no-name lackeys, Naruto still being a retard and acting like a naive teenage cocksucker (one would think that being one of the two persons that essentially keep the entirety of the Elemental Countries standing would take it a bit more seriously), and don't even get me started about the tailed beasts - they were always portrayed (except the eight-tails) as basically a bunch of final bosses of the ninja world. Not like a bunch of pussies.

I've always thought that the fox was perhaps the strongest thing in this manga - it's essentially a deus-ex machina that would allow the author do pretty much anything without being unbelievable. So what did he do? He made them a big misunderstood plushies whose past-time is bumping fists.

Jesus fuck.


I would slap the shit out of Kishimoto for destroying his work so much if I could.

Frankly, the only reason why I'm reading it anymore is to see how much stuff can Naruto destroy with the fox. Although the fact that he's apparently his emotional buddy now makes the situation far less awesome.


The only thing that could redeem it would be something akin to what EsperJones said, but with the author's track record it's far from likely.

Screw it, I want some version for people older than 14 that don't neccesarily need a happy ending and in which not almost every character is 'redeemed' out of a fucking nowhere after 5 minutes, despite holding onto his beliefs for the majority of their lives.

 

In that case, don't read Shonen manga.

 

I would reiterate the above post by saying, Don't read manga at all. Frankly, if they took their time redeeming every character, the manga wouldn't end. Period. Don't forget that while you're reading a graphic novel, it still needs to convey the whole story. I find the story telling in Naruto acceptable and enjoyable.

In fact, I would go so far as to say that it was trying out 'your methodology' that led to that Sasuke arc in the beginning of Naruto Shippuden. I do not want to experience that ever again.

As far as this chapter is concerned, I actually enjoyed it very much and am anxious to read the next one.

Good lord, misunderstood? They aren't misunderstood. They fucking kill people. That they feel hatred for being imprisoned, and that Naruto can empathize with them doesn't make them misunderstood. It makes them multi-layered, but ultimately mass-murderers, like a great deal of Shinobi. There is no black and white, I think, is the oft used cliche. Only shades of gray.

And the fist bump... of course it's fucking out of character. It's not meant to be taken at face value, it's a sign to let you know, "character a respects character b".

Manga is for fight scenes. That's it. You want story? Grab a fucking novel. This is almost like complaining about the lack of depth in a coloring book.

 

Disagree with you there Cxjenious, I can think of a manga that has a pretty awesome story.

 

I can think of many manga's that have amazing story. Trying to justify a retarded story line by saying that it's a manga so the story line doesn't matter is retarded. I can understand the fist bump, but some of this shit is getting out of hand.

 

Seconded/Thirded. Any medium is capable of being used to tell a good story. After all, Manga is really just the Japanese equivalent to comic books, and plenty of those have been very story-driven. The only time "it's a manga" is a remotely valid excuse is when it's a case Japanese/Western cultural dissonance and/or translation issues causing problems.

Not to mention that the whole "Manga is only for fighting" statement displays an impressive ignorance of the fact that there are tons of manga series that feature relatively little action or even don't have a single fight scene for their entire run.

Also, before Naruto's inevitable fight with Sasuke he needs to be depowered or Uchiha needs to get Rinnegan. Otherwise their fight will not last even a second.

 

Naruto is the shit.

It's like, watching a SS2 slap around a SS1 if you compared the two modes, his speed seems like it's completly insane now. Naruto has bonded with Kyubi now as they seem to be talking normally and Naruto using his name properly.

Kakashi and Gai were about to sacrifice themselves using their self-killing jutsus, which would of been epic if it happened before Naruto got the new powers.

We don't actually know who the final villian is yet. Sasuke might be a stepping stone and Orochimaru might even come back for a final time- or reveal he has been controlling Kabuto- and be the final villian, a lot of shows do that with the first major villian ends up being the final villian.

I think the Naruto/Sasuke fight may even be Naruto bitch slapping him around while using talk-no-jutsu.

 

I doubt Sasuke will be the final "big" villain, but I suspect he will be the final antagonist for Naruto to defeat. Probably with a lot of talking. Still, I can't see Kishimoto not making them equals in power.

 

Heh, maybe Naruto owns him, and half-way through Sasuke develops Rinnegan like Madara supposedly did during the prime of his life, or w/e? As Naruto hasn't battled Madara, he will get a fully-evolved Sasuke instead...?

 

On Topic: This Chapter has reminded me why I love this damn manga so much. Kishimoto may have some serious faults with sharingan fanboyism and some other really out there ideas, but he pulls off some absolutely epic shit without making it seem overdone or repetitive.

Honestly, I know a lot of it is the Kyuubi.. but.. Naruto makes me think of nothing less than a young god just coming into his power.

Off-Topic: Every time he uses the Kyuubi's name I get flashbacks to Yu Yu Hakusho. Kurama, really? LoL.

I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

 

Not that I'm complaining, but I hate Naruhodo a bit for getting to TL this chapter when I was stuck with the Kishitroll name-reveal chapter.

I mean, that was lulzy in itself. But still.

FUCKING EXAMS.

 

It was certainly enjoyable in terms of epic fighting, although I have to say, I was a bit disappointed when Naruto fight-cockblocked Kakashi and Gai.

Also, I will never be able to take the Kyuubi seriously as long as he is called Kurama.

That said, enjoyable chapter.

Is that all the bijuu can do, though? I would have thought each bijuu has a special, individual skillset like their containers but so far, they can only fire blasts and grapple.

 

THIS is why I still read the manga. In between Kishimoto trolling, conversations about the power of friendship, and the kinda-yaoi-kinda-not relationship between Naruto and Sasuke, we get gold. The series lost something vital after the time-skip, but every once and a while it comes back.

 

I feel like I'm reading DBZ again, what with all the monstrous power blasts and speed you can't even see. But then I loved DBZ.

Naruto's just gone Super Saiyan 3 on this bitch.

 

Then let's hope we don't get a SS4 that ruins the whole plot like that did with DB.

Naruto schedule is back to the once-a-week release now, right? So no fortnight breaks for a while?
