Rayndeon, your theory is sound but between the two:

Harry fought alongside his lover, who was in ravenclaw, had an atletic body, blue eyes, long black hair who seemed to glow while she moved...
And
Harry fought alonside Daphne during the Battle of Hogwarts...

Daphne already is known to readers, even if just a little. So why do I have to learn the life of a OC because of just one fic?

Now this doesn't mean that your OC is a bad idea, just as long as he doesn't play a major part of the story, because it seems too much like a plot device.

The best OCs that I remember are the random death eaters, the smiths, jacks or whatever they're called because I don't need to know too much about them, they just do what they're supposed to and then go away.

 

Exactly! OC are fine in most fandoms but in some, few select fandoms there are enough characters so that you don't have to create a new one.I've seen good OCs and bad OC but for some reason I always consider them Sues and skip the story. I know everyone wants to write their fantasies (historians believe this was how fiction, ultimately fanfiction was born) it may not be as enjoyable for other people to read. I'm sure the author of My Immortal liked writing her fic

 

How about if Quirrel wasn't the one Voldemort possessed? Why not make this OC both headboy and Voldemort's little host? This way, Harry learns a bit from the OC headboy about powerplay in Slytherin while Voldemort gets to use him to get PS? This might open up a plot hole about Dumbledore not knowing about Voldemort in his headboy's head but then I guess you could probably use jbern's TLIL excuse for Dumbledore.
