If you can get past the character design being all anthropomorphic animals, I would recommend Dust: an Elysian Tail. 2D side scrolling beat-em-up with a 15-20 hour story, one of the most fluid and fun combat systems I've played in a while, and is surprisingly pretty considering it was done by one guy. The only thing I would say about it negatively is that its on the easy side unless you go to the harder difficulty levels.
