Paypal . Easy as all hell and then some. I've used it for something like 7 years. Love it.

    Local currency exchange?

These prepaid credit cards are nice! Just pay a one time $3.00 (I think it is..) fee and then use as a giftcard\visa\atm (with some fees) until the money runs ou!

Uh... any idea when Patronus Charm will be operational? I really don't think I can take more of ff.net's deletions.

I don't know about this whole download chapter bit. I mean it will be okay probably in the beggining, but that could really cause a drainage on the bandwidth wouldn't it?

I can see people now going from story to story downloading them to their computer like crazy and deciding not to read them.. -.-

That's why I seconded the idea that this feature only be supported for those who have donated to the server. If it costs you money most people won't bother with it unless they *really* use it!

--bornagainpenguin (who reminds you that if this feature is not built in and planned for it will be added by outsiders. De-FFNet-izer, anyone?)

Indeed, I had already planned PayPal integration (for v0.2). The first version will have all the necessities, then v0.2 will have extras that would be nice to have. I'm going to work on PC once I finish up this freelance project, which will be before Friday. The CP will probably be the largest project left of the entire site, the rest is mostly done.

Could the favorites actually show the last update, allow to be sorted by update, etc? Option to enable email alerts on all stories on your favorites list, so you don't have to go through them all and set it if you don't want to. Allow the user to select constant emails (which probably won't happen anyway, considering how often fics are updated) or daily digest (yahoo style) so if you have 1000 favorites like another person was talking about you wouldn't have constant spam.

Update dates on each chapter, so readers can get a feel for how often a reader updates the story.

I would love a way to download all chapters of a story (each chapter as its own txt file zipped up), as a good FF is nice to read via iPod in class/work. On a related note, I don't know if its the FF software or the program people are using to write these out but every story has “ and ”, along with the three periods "..." that don't show up well on the iPod note reader.

On a fic that has a sex scene maybe, you should have a popup asking whether the reader has anything against mature scenes and if so they leave if not they don't.

Just to keep out the people who review 'your sick' or other stuff like that.

Or have something similar to Google's safesearch...If you're a visitor you only see K-T stories unless you intentionally change it. If you're registered you set it in your profile what you want to filter.

Seems that PC is not the only new HP archive in making. This is a message from one of Yahoo!Groups (can't remember which at the moment):

    > What we really need is to establish something along the lines of
    > ff.net although keep it solely based in the hpodd stories...although
    > I'm sure that none of us actually has the bandwidth, server space, or
    > money to actually keep that going.

Actually, I do :) Keep your eye's and ears pealed, ladies and
gentleman. I'm nearing the beta release of my own fanfiction website.

A few things that might interest you:

Ratings from 1-10 overall, and 1-5 on things like plot, grammar, and
    three other categories

Stories are taggable, which means there is no excuse for not
indicating Slash. Failure to do so (or pre-slash / possible-slash)
will result in banning. Any irrelevant tagging will result in banning
    - temporary at first, permanent later.

Unlimited favorites - with your own notes on the story. Story and
    Author alerts available as well.

*Automatic export of any chapter to PDF!!!* Yes, you read that right :)

And, much, much more. I'm polishing things up for a limited beta
release. It would be invitation only for authors at first - starting
with those who were cut in the "Great Fanfic Purge of 2006" and others
who might be interested. Space will be limited to begin with, but if
it catches on, then there won't be any problem :)

    it's going to be flourishandblotts.net

Perhaps I'll post some screen shots later, if anyone is interested.

    Josh

Looks like I'm not the only one who thinks that having an export option is a good idea, only instead of a bundled as a zip option this guy wants to export as a pdf..

Hmmm.. maybe I should email him and see if I can get exporting as a palm eBook an option? I'm a fan of both the iSilo and MobiDoc eBook readers... I tend to read stories on my palm most of the time, but its a PITA to convert all the time!

Did a search...looks real but I'm not sure its a fanfiction website... The website says something abou quality books... Did a whois on the domain and its some interesting information!

Well, unless you want Raven to send him a mail-bomb or something, I don't see what's your point. :)

Meh, I doubt. There are hundreds of members here (some of which are authors) who will advertise PatronusCharm relentlessly. I know I will. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it because extremely popular.

On that note, can we have a status report Raven? How's it coming along?

Just that this confirms that someone has indeed registered the domain and its not some mope hijacking a domain or something. Also its a way to call the dude up and make him an offer.. if you kn ow what I mean?

If you were so inclined you could do a search on the company backling him and see how relaiable they are? I dunno, maybe the phrasing of the msg on the board you quoted and the fact he's from Kansas IIRC show that he'll have a low tolerance for slash?

---bornagainpenguin (laughing because he's stioll dorky enough to find whois a fun thing to look up..)

Maybe DLP members that join PC should get extra features. For doing this, when registering, there will be a button that says something like "I am a DLP.net member". To prevent those unworthy of this, you have to submit your DLP username and password. Also, maybe something like on DLP you have to have X ammount of posts or have been a member for X ammount of days before you can get said features to weed out even more peeps that want the DLP member exclusive features.

I don't care if I have competition, *shrug*. I'm running it for myself and other authors who just want to post their stuff anyways.

PC is coming along, I just haven't had much time to work on it or my stories lately. So much stuff to do as of late...fortunately, I can just finish up this freelance project tonight/tomorrow, then I can work on PC and Heir of Silvertongue.
