i prefer to think of it as the light pushing away the dark ages of ff.net and the rest of the shittastic fiction sites

We should (could) ask the best Authors of FF.net to puplish their works also at our site. This way we make sure we get a good quality site.

You definitely need "Transfer my account from FF.net" option.

You can even send emails to better authors from FF.net with offers like "Afraid of all your work dissapearing overnight because of some zealot jerk? Click here and make a backup in 5 minutes..." Or something like that...
It IS tehnicaly considered a SPAM, but it's a very, very mild form of it.

This would be far easier if I had access to FF.Net's database, however it isn't really a realistic thing to strive for [transfer from FF.Net].

And yes, we could ask some authors to publish.

I'll post my stuff at the new site, probably as that long-delayed NC-17 version I've been wavering on doing. I'll also keep posting at ff.net at the same time though, since to be brutally honest that's where the larger audience is likely going to remain. Still, looking forward to the new site.

Hmm...I think that the first version of PatronusCharm will have to only support the upload of HTML and Open Document format files...ie, OpenOffice, and soon to be MS Office, though I believe NeoOffice and AbiWord can write them. Maybe RTF too.

    WTF!

so many people read stories from Vash, Midknight, Lord Serapheth etc. use your profiles to put up links, if anything more people like the Dark, independent harry then other catagories except that degrading Harry/Slut. Is it even possible to get on the FF.net database?

Of course not, which is why a "transfer" feature wouldn't be feasable. Sure I could spider their outward accounts, but that wouldn't be productive. I wish I had some of FF.Net's data to run and tweak queries on though...

I don't think so. While there are many people who read dark and Independent stories the number of Panzi! Harry fics is higher then dark Harry with balls fic. I am not saying this is good just stating it.

yeah, if you can stat that I remember that .rtf were the best option when transferring files to different computers, but then I don't know a lot about it. Only that .rtf I could open with anything [I had corel, old word 3.1, the openoffice, and word when I was writing my thesis. go for .rtf but let everyone know about it.

Soon we'll all be using the Open Document Format. Microsoft finally decided to switch to it in its next release of MS Office. The Open Document Format is a compressed XML file, which makes it really easy to read. HTML only needs to be run through a few filters, and RTF...well I'm sure there's a class out there for reading RTFs, it isn't too hard. As for .doc, well, people can save to HTML or RTF, because I'm not going to jump through a hoop or twenty to read Microsoft Office Documents on Linux through PHP.

Why not? It's technically easily done. Just simulate some offfline
downloader, like Teleport, and then process HTMLs to whatever format you'll be using.

The fact is, someone could also use this feature for abuse. Some person is too lazy to steal the stories on their own, but with the backup function it'd be pretty easy.

I'll say it. MySQL is awesome. Today I tested some of the MySQL queries I use to access data on the site with a huge amount of data...240,022 chapters in the database. As I've done a lot of work on the MySQL structure and creating effective indexes (think of letters in a phone book, narrowing down the possible names to get the number), MySQL only has to scan about 22 of those rows to find the chapter it needs, rather than 240,022. This is a very fast query...less than 10ms. All of the other queries are similar in design, and I must say, it loads far faster than FF.Net.

I also benchmarked the read section today. I found it can handle about 25 requests per second.
    </ramble>

I also have finished the read page totally...reviews, add alerts, and all. Login/Registrations are also 100% complete. Once I have the rest of the pages the rest of the development should go quickly, though the only thing I think I might have trouble on will be file processing, and possibly searches (actual searches, not the list thing...that's pretty easy).

For you Mid, I added the Story Bookmark feature. For everyone, I finished OpenOffice format so that people can upload their stories from OpenOffice 1 or OpenOffice 2 format.

Any more feature requests or suggestions?

    Nice one mate.

Hrm... I can't remember if I told you already or not, and I'm too assed atm to look in the thread, but a "Karma" feature for the reviewers would kick ass. Probably too much of a headache to, but a lil bar or something others could click on to rate your status as a reviewer would kick ass. (whether the reviewers is honest, a dipshit, etc)

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before actually referencing Lionhead's Black and White 2 boards.

Yeah, you have. Once I have everything up and running, then I'll add it karma. Should I do it on a by-review basis or per-story or what? Just allow the authors of that story to vote on the reviews from the user?
