Hear me out please before you get your pitchforks and torches….

(I’ll abbreviate this story b/c some of you here heard half of it a while ago.)

I introduced a friend of mine to FanFiciton. She started to read slash almost immediately after. We argue about it a lot, and one day when I asked her if she reads FemSlash she said no because, I quote, “It degrades women.”

Fast forward half a year and through many pointless arguments….

She now sits next to me in one of my classes and has the audacity to read slash right next to me, bad descriptive slash to boot. So now I need to find a story that degrades women with femslash, I’m thinking about a ‘Harry has a harem’ one, but I was wondering if you guys had any better ideas. Yes I did think about going to AFF but I don’t really want to be caught in school with pure smut. But, I guess if you guys know any particularly bad ones I’d be willing to risk it.

P.S. Just incase any of you are still looking forward to ripping me into small bloody pieces for looking for this kind of fic, I’m doing it as joke not because I hate women...why do I have the feeling that some people will still want to flame me for this...

 

Well, Tobang, I can't help you here. I won't rip you a new one, but do watch out for the females of the site. Today might be that day. (please don't kill me for that, I'm just stating a fact that it indeed could be)

I personally disagree with the fact that FemSlash degrades women. If it did, then Slash would have to degrade males, because females aren't the only things in the world that get degraded. Have you told her that Tobang?

 

Show her Dakaath. From time to time I have people accuse me of being a mysogynist over that story (which I'm not).

EDIT: Actually, I have a better one. oldwolf's 'Harry Potter and the Sisters Black.' That harem story is EXTREMELY degrading to the women involved.

 

That’s why this is all so damn funny to me. She honestly doesn’t think of male slash as degrading males but as soon as Fem Slash is introduced into a story it’s always just some dudes disgusting wet dream.

I’ll say it once again just for emphasis, this is a joke. My friend wont actually get that offended, probably just outraged…

And in case your wondering why the need for revenge is in order…she spent the last class with me reading out loud a story that was basically about Harry being all sad because Snape (his lover) is cheating on him with Draco. He then runs into Draco planing to tear him a new one but end up ass fucking him instead. She was reading this too me during some dumb Spanish movie we were sposed to be watching.


Edit: It was actually Dakaath that made her hate fem slash. She kept going on about how pointless it all was in your story because it didn’t add any value to your story just made it bigoted. Not to mention she kept going on about how it was unrealistic, what girl would just lay down and take tha fact that her Bf/husband was cheating on her. it was at that point that I calmly explained to her that she was read HARRY POTTER FF.

 

For starters, I would think it would be most people's reaction to try not to bring up the infidelity of their half-demon lover. But then again, Cho probably would, though we still haven't seen the scene where she confronts Harry about Hitomi (*gives a hopeful, waiting-on-next-chapter look to LT2000*). Also, tell your lady friend that she is a hypocrite. If you can't like FemSlash because it is degrading to women, then you shouldn't like Slash because it is degrading to women. While a lot of the time it is writen by a man in response to a fantasy, I would bet thousands that the vast majority of the people who write Draco!Harry stories are just horny girls who thought the actors who played those two characters were attractive.

 

Meh, I thought I sorta explained it within the story. But yeah, I'll admit to anybody that wants to hear that Dakaath is filled with mistakes. It was my first project and not a very good one. I've learned better since. But yeah, there was all of ONE femmeslash scene in PoD. As sensitive as your friend seems to be about such things, I have to admit I'm surprised she managed to get through reading all the (worse) stuff I'd done prior to that point.

 

Okay, I don't think the stuff's all that degrading to women, but if you want femslash, here you go!

An entire LJ community devoted to it. Not much there yet, but none of it is AFF-level smut. If nothing else, the title of the community is enough to shock the finnicky.

All good points and I’ve pointed them all out to her. The most I have ever gotten out of her though was an admission that SOME slash stories distort the characters a bit too much. But she still loves them, she’s a sucker for over dramatic stories. Cheating, depression and scandals make great fics in her mind. But she stays one-hundred percent firm in her belief that the vast majority of FemSlash is just derogatory smut.

 

Personally, I really don't see anything wrong with writing out some of your fantasies. There is nothing wrong with being turned on by seeing a couple naked sexy chicks making out. Hell, just he naked sexy chicks part is nice. It just so happens that while girls are attracted to 'sensitive' guys, guys enjoy feeling powerful. So naturally girls will write wimpy crying Harry, and guys will write Harry with two hot babes making out and being slightly subservient. None of it is real.

 

Emergence of Heritage. Not degrading

 

I have never found femslash particularly degrading. Why would men finding women attractive, even if the sex they have doesn't involve males, be all that degrading? I have dabbled a bit in writing femslash myself, and see it distort personalities much less than slash, as a general rule.

If you all want me to list off fics with NON-degrading femslash, I'd be here typing for a while.

 

I think you're going about this in the wrong way.

Femmeslash, yes, the large majority of it written by men often can degrade women. But mainly only the real filthy submissive stuff. Just like all the slash written by females degrades men. [WARNING: Just because it's true that it degrades the men by turning them into women, do NOT, I repeat NOT, ever actually mention this to a female.] Now slash, you'd have a lot better luck locating some slash that degrades women. Or maybe a good old fashioned abuse fic. Husband beats wife. Why? Because the bitch can't cook. Because she deserved it. Because she's a whore for dressing that way. Because she just... doesn't... listen!

Femmeslash fan art could also be the way to go too.

But frankly, you're dealing with a female teenager. And one who openly likes slash. You cannot win. It's not possible. The fact of the matter is you will never be as crazy as she is.

 

Not trying to be a troll or anything but have you ever thought that perhaps your friend might be a bit repressed? Some people before coming out of the closet(if they ever do) exhibit homophobic tendencies...so maybe she has like some secret desire or something?

That would work, but if you read you notice she LOVES Man on Man action, thats not being homophobic.

 

Only reason she reads slash for "drama" and all that is because the males of HP have the right personalities to pull off major drama, weres as the females do not since only Hermione and Ginny are developed and Ginny not that much at all. Hermione doesnt even show much interest in romance.

Basically she reads slash cause JKR didnt give the girls personalities to create drama stories well, so instead we get mass slash around cause the guys have these diverse personalities.

Ie: Draco, Snape, Remus, Harry and Sirius. Each character here is developed well and they have very opposite personalities of each other which creates major drama if "paired" together, while the girls do not have these major personalities differences.

Theres only 2 females in the series that are developed enough that are not married: Ginny and Hermione. Ginny isnt even developed enough just that she has has multiple boyfriends and she lusts after Harry. Basically we dont have the dark goth girls developed enough to make "drama" stories.

and Some of the slash stories are just girls fantasies that they write out because of the HP actors.

 

That's lazy. Develope your own characters. Poleriod like. And there are plenty drama het stories out there to satisfy any angst lover and more than enough to bug the shit out of any regular person.
