Not gonna happen bro, sorry. Knowing Disney, they'll have something from all the old school stuff to appease the fans for the massive shit show that is them dumping the EU.

I'm having trouble getting excited about any of this yet. I don't recognize any of the new actors, and as far as I know we don't know anything regarding who they're playing or what the films will be about save that they take place about 35 years after the original trilogy.

With The Phantom Menace I think we knew fairly early on that it would feature Anakin Skywalker. We also knew a little about the state of the Galaxy we were going into -- the Jedi Order would still be around and thriving, Yoda would probably be around, Palpatine would likely be present but not yet the evil emperor, etc.

Do we know anything about the upcoming movies except that it'll have older versions of Luke, Han, and Leia? Presumably we'll see the results of Luke's efforts to revitalize the Jedi Order, but that's so vague that it doesn't tell us anything.

I've seen Attack the Block, so I recognize the token Black Guy, but I also would like to know more about the movie itself. They can let out a little bit of information, just a tidbit would do.

Dude, it's still over a year and a half away. Chill, you'll find out more in the lead up.

Shit, you'll probably find out more on may 4th tbh.

Not knowing the actors isn't a bad thing either. Probably means they were hired because their suitable for the roles J.J envisions - because it sure as shit isn't a budget issue, lol.

Why so much hate for the prequels?

I discovered the Star Wars universe through the Phantom Menace with my cousin and found it to be a fascinating universe with a lighthearted tone that was still serious. It (series) eventually turned darker and was very exciting to see.

I love the prequels more than the originals.

I'd argue that anyone who has touched more than 5% of the EU knows who they are, and also a MASSIVE portion of the 18-35 demographic who've been reading scifi/fantasy since they were kids probably do too.

YA was incredibly sparse in the early to late 90s before Harry Potter breathed life into it. Like... I remember going into Borders and Waldenbooks as a kid and there would be ONE fucking 4 x 6 shelf of YA SciFi/Fantasy. You had your various Tamora Pierce series, your Phillip Pullman, your Garth Nix, your Goosebumps, your Animorphs, your various Diana Wynne Jones, LLoyd Alexander's works, Redwall (ugh fuck those books), Narnia, and Young Jedi Knights.

And that was pretty much it.

I dunno if Disney would want to piss off THAT many people by retconning the existence of the two most prominent EU chars. I'm sure they'll change the twins' stories around, but get rid of them all together? Nah. Don't think so.

He blew up vulcan and killed off Kirk's dad in ST. I'm sure some people raged, but it was still fantastic.

Innocent until proven guilty, basically. He's earned that.

You'd be surprised. Well, no, not really, I imagine. You know what I mean, though.

I've read through some of them and they're all right, but I never really saw them as what they're hyped to be. I mean, I started with the Thrawn Trilogy and enjoyed it, but it wasn't amazing. I put it on par with the Lost Fleet series. Something to read when you don't have any Kingkiller Chronicles or Dresden Files to read.

No, because most (all, in my experience), can't sit down and have a critical discussion about the SW franchise without frothing at the mouth and storming away.

How did his comment in any way resemble frothing at the mouth and storming away? :colbert:

Some of them are very shitty. Some are pretty good. Most are just average, and I wouldn't qualify any of them as masterpieces.

In my case, I thought the prequels were ok. I don't have the abiding hatred of them that most fans of the original series seem to have, but they were pretty irritating in some respects (Jar Jar Binks, anyone?). You're the first person I've seen who actually prefers the prequels though. Any particular reason why?

Jeremy Jahns has some good comments about the casting, but I only post this link because of his "flashback" to a casting reveal for the prequels. Makes you realize what kind of the potential was mostly wasted in them.
