Insulting my intelligence on the internet when your sarcastic joke fell flat? Class.

That comment you just quoted wasn't directed at you, btw.

No, Class is having the desire to respond to a stupid joke with a stupid opinion but not doing so.

I quoted it because it was your last post.

My annoyance at SW fans wanting to lynch me when i argue anything about the series being below average is stupid?

    Ok, cool.

Not even close, but I'm not derailing this any longer. I'd be more than happy to argue the series was my main point. The whole "never friends" thing was meant to be a joke, your response was idiotic because the joke clearly illicited the wrong response from you.

    /derail.

The thing that has me most excited about these movies is that the EU is getting the dick. I really wanted Luke to have a big role in this, since literally the ONLY part of the EU that I liked was how much of a badass Luke turns into, but with the current state of the actor I don't see how this can be done.

I am also one of those who grew up with the SW prequels and enjoy them more than the originals. I dislike Phantom Menace, but the rest were pies of awesome sprinkled with win for my young, easily-impressed-by-sparkly-stuff mind.

Just mute the dialogue between anakin and padme next time you watch it.

For the sake of your childhood nostalgia, ofc

I know what to do and skip to the good parts.

Namely, the fucking awesome space battles, land battles and lightsaber duels.

Give me those over the original trilogy any day of the week.

Easy answer? I was a kid and there was a lot of movie magic to love. Space battles. Podracers. Lightsabers. There were more indicators that this was futuristic in comparison to the originals.

Looking at it as an adult. I loved that Anakin could podrace with his high midichlorian count. It was something limited to species with higher than average reflexes. I thought the concept of the force was more fleshed out because of this.

Plus I didn't find Jar Jar that annoying or the romance unbelievable.

And as for others saying there was shit plot in the first film. I enjoyed it. Here was a planet being blockaded for no fucking reason apparently. Except as the series went on and Palpatine as the Emperor progressed it's obvious that he orchestrated it.

Which leads me to another point I loved about the prequels. Seeing the Emperor in his early stages. Everything about this man tells me he was a mastermind. I mean here was a senator who plotted and became ruler of an entire galaxy. Mind you it was a thousand year plan, but I think Palpatine and his master did the most to advance it.

Also, while I enjoyed Darth Vader in the originals I loved, absolutely loved, Anakin Skywalker in the prequels. Slave turned Jedi turned Sith. Who was manipulated into killing off all of his kind yet I still loved him. Amidala dying was where I was D: though because I couldn't see Anakin ever force choking her. That's possibly the biggest fault I saw in the prequels, but it happened.

Lastly the Jedi. I think it was great that they were so numerous. Here was an order tasked with justice and peace who were dispensing it with lightsaber duels. Not at all peaceful then but even that I enjoyed. I suppose them being pacifists would have made for a boring movie. I mean in the original there were three jedi (Luke, Obi-Wan and Yoda) for comparison. It made me like the universe more.

I really got into Star Wars at the time too and devoured books from the originals as well as books tied in to the prequels. Can't remember squat after my long period of HP fanfics, but I took pleasure from it.

Oh and before I forget. I know I mentioned Anakin but his parallel to Jesus (prophecy, virgin birth, death to redeem sins) was excellent. I really liked that he turned away from the path of light too and fell to temptation. Despite his unbelievable circumstances he proved to be human.

As a whole the movies told a great story on the rise of power of one man and the fall to darkness of another. I found that far more interesting than the story line about the son destroying the empire and bringing about peace and justice (again, what the jedi were meant to do).

Kind of a long post for me. But you did ask. :)

    Glowing lightsabers. Ooh! *wanders off*

I'm gonna just say this, I feel that those who watched the Prequels first will never be able to understand the Trilogy in the same way as those who watched the Trilogy first. Mainly because they already know what's happening, that's why the Trilogy is less exciting for them.

If you could forget everything you knew about the whole series, and start Trilogy first, I bet there'd be a different opinion. It's why I'm not a fan of the prequels. It basically removes any excitement from the Trilogy by way of explaining everything.

The opening scene of the Trilogy, where the ship troops are lining up for battle, it's fucking intense because we the audience had no clue who they were or why they were lining up. All we knew was that shit was about to go down, then BAM firefight, lasers and smoke everywhere, men in white armor pouring into a doorway. Holy crap, that's nuts.

Then through the smoke, comes a demonic hulking figure in black. We know he's the bad guy, but fucking christ that breathing sound is terrifying and holy shit he just killed some random dude and there's a princess somewhere, WHAT???? This just got real. And that's just the opening scene.

Now, if we put on our Prequel tinted glasses, we realize, "oh, that's Anakin, and those are Imperial troopers, so the guys without armor must be helping the Rebels that we literally just saw founded one movie ago. This is gonna be stupid".

Once you watch one set or the other, there's going to be bias. It's an issue I wish more people were aware of because then it'd be a more peaceful co-habitation of what should be an overall awesome Universe.

Except the Yuuzhan Vong because that shit was just fucking stupid.

I agree with you entirely. There is a difference based on which you see first.

Also fuck those other galaxy invaders. :)

Edit: I just wiki'd them and I'd forgotten their tech was purely organic. That was pretty cool.

Star Wars was among of the earliest movies I remember watching. I remember when the Special Edition re-releases came out we got a big VHS box set that had all sorts of bonus stuff like concept art. Unfortunately it didn't survive being subjected to moving twice in a short period of time on top of two more generations of kids getting into it. I've thought about finding one on the internet, if I can, and buying it again for nostalgia's sake.

I don't hate the prequels as much as some, but they're certainly deeply flawed. I watched them all as they came out in theaters and enjoyed them, but I view them as a good concept botched by execution. They still have their high points though.

As for these new ones coming up, yeah, I'm interested in seeing what they'll do. The EU content set after ROTJ never really drew me in, so I for one don't mind them doing something different. Though I also don't mind if they reuse some of the old content either.

Wait, that guy from Attack The Block is one of the main characters? The guy who was the least interesting person in the movie he was the main character of? Who couldn't manage to pull off a single expression the entire film?

Wow. I mean, I haven't seen him in anything else so I really hope that was a result of the Direction, because otherwise holy shit.

As a person who don't hate the prequels that much, I fear is that Abrams and co. will go too far in revering the old trilogy. It will be boring if Abrams dare not try something new and innovative with the Sequels.

I don't want a film that try to appeal to the people who grew up with the OT at the expense of everyone else that grew up with the prequels.

Knowing Abrams, and what he did with Trek, I'm sure he'll come up with something. Just so long as it's not time travel.

Into Darkness was worse though. Really, Abrams directing is fine, but I'm not at all happy that he decided he should be the one writing it.

Turns out I'm an idiot anyway. He didn't write the Star Trek movies. So who knows, maybe he's a decent writer after all.

Abrams should just hurry up with Star Wars. I'm waiting for that Half-Life movie he promised.
