According to the video Celestin posted, the guy who wrote Empire Strikes Back is writing the movie.

 

My favourite of the Star Wars films. Excellent.

Both of them are. Abrams took over the script and then brought in Kasdan. There's no indication what that actually entailed. Just that they're both the writers.

Which is weird, because you look just like that guy from National Treasure... You'd think the casting directors would be all over that.

I can't work up the energy to care about the expanded universe. Maybe it's a good thing if the new movies don't drag it around like an anchor.

I'm almost certain they said they were going for relatively unknown actors. Has everyone that's been cast not already been in a movie/television series?

I liked Jacen. Thought it was bullshit Anakin Skywalker was to be the most powerful of the three Solo kids just because he was named after his grandfather. Jacen during the yuuzhan vong books was the shit. I read those when I was 12, though, so maybe it's rose tinted glasses.

From what I saw in the thread, JJA doing the movie hasn't been received with much enthusiasm. I'm okay with that myself. I had a vague idea that Star Trek existed before seeing the JJA films (which I enjoyed) and I don't know the EU for SW (only saw the films) so based on what I do know, I'm trusting Mr Abrams to make an enjoyable space movie.

I also find myself agreeing entirely with Riley's post about how you perceive either trilogy after seeing the other one first. I'm among those who saw the prequels first and I think it attributed to me not enjoying the originals as much as I hoped I would.
