    1) Revan's already time jumped in previous canon. Stasis chambers/hibernation/hyperspace mishaps have all been used in previous canon.

    2) The EU isn't canon, because it's a big gigantic mess of inconsistencies and it's easier to start over fresh.

    3) No idea, since it's not Revan. (rumor #293846)

    4) Strongest Sith is subjective. There are a number of them that could have that title for various reasons. You'll have a lot of Revan fanboys that will decry that, but there you go.

I agree, power levels for all Force users is highly subjective, and all-time ones especially so. I've seen maybe half a dozen lists that try to rank them and most of them have people on the top of one jumping to the bottom, and vice versa. The ones we know in canon to be extremely strong consistently is the Skywalker line, especially pre-Mustafar Anakin and Luke, for obvious reasons. Yoda and Sidious are also usually ranked highly in all-time lists; other than that, it's a free for all based on who the list-maker likes the most.

As much as I love Revan, I highly doubt it's him for a few reasons.
    1. Revan is KOTOR. EU is thrown out, and while they might incorporate some aspects, I doubt they'd bring in one from a ten year old video game set four thousand years BBY.
    2. The only evidence we have it could be him is a shot of a black cloak from the back. Let's be honest, this is basically the Sith uniform. It could be anyone. If we see his awesomely creepy mask, that's a whole other story.
    3. JJ Abrams strikes me as the type of director who'd rather create his own bad guy than use an existing one. ST:ID is the obvious exception, but that's a remake rather than a sequel.

I think the saber looks cool, but it makes me wonder how the crossguard will affect the fighting style. I imagine broader, more sweeping moves. The behind-the-back twirl is still probably possible, but certainly more difficult to pull off.

That's another thing that makes me wonder. Were people so amazed at the Star Trek reboot that they trust Abrams with Star Wars without worry?

I trust that he'll make a really entertaining movie. I trust that he won't throw in too much corny. I trust that we won't get a repeat of Phantom Menace.

The real question is weather or not the film can stay loyal to the original themes and still manage to not be a rehash of the first trilogy.

J.J. Abrams makes good movies. The Star Trek reboot was handled in almost the best way it could have been. The time travel made it faithful to the original series while opening the door for so many new story lines.

Star Trek had it's issues, but Abrams was able to maintain the heart of the original I felt. Considering Abrams is more of a Star Wars guy than Star Trek guy (His words I beleive) I am more content to let him have at the Star Wars universe.

Just curious, but if you were going to have someone direct these aside from Abrams...who would it be?

People can decry the prequels all they want (I do mostly for the cringeworthy dialogue), but I do not want a regression in the action.

A lot of people disliked Yoda fighting with a lightsaber, but those fast paced lightsaber/ force duels (specifically OWK vs Grevious) are some of my fav moments of all six movies...

If it has to be Force focused, that's one aspect I very much don't want them adhering to the OT for...

You mean the dancing around, twirling and spinning the lightsaber like a drum major without any contact with the opponent or their blade, all for show with no practical purpose? That fighting?

The lightsaber fights in Phantom Menace were pretty good I thought. The best is Luke vs. Vader on Bespin.

    EDIT: Colbert weighs in.

The lightsaber design is fine. You don't hit yourself with the guard when using a longsword. I don't see why it would suddenly happen with a lightsaber when they're able to not hit themselves with the blade just fine. You don't have to hold the hilt with your hand close to the guard on a longsword anyway, and he clearly doesn't in the shot.

The blade sliding is also not really an issue, since that never actually happens with lightsabers for some reason. Probably because they're not metal. It's even only a thing with swords when you don't edge parry. I would totally agree with the concept of not having the metal bit if it were actually possible to have the opponents lightsaber slide and lock it (because there's a whole bunch of things you can do form that position), but lightsabers don't seem to work that way so it doesn't really matter.

As I see it, the primary use would be a means to block an attack on the hand from the front while allowing a counterattack on your opponent, and as that the crossguard is perfectly fine as an addition, and is at absolute worst as efficient a design as the standard lightsaber that has nothing there. At best it's significantly better.

I just hope he actually uses it like a longsword, because longsword fencing is awesome. I doubt it though.

It just looks kinda stupid tbh. I much prefer the version someone posted earlier in this thread, where the entire crossguard is there.

    Edit: posted by Nae'blis.

Yeah, I think most of the objections to the lightsaber crossguard are more "the version in the film looks bad" than "there's no reason to have one."

My issues are entirely aesthetic, and possibly how it affects lightsaber duels.

My main question was why a group of X-Wings were flying suicidally low over an ocean. X-Wings I can believe (blah blah design improvements done in the EU already blash), the tactics I cannot. One wave wrecks your shit fancy energy shield or no. But then, I was always a lot more interested in the ships and space battles than the Force shenanigans.

The black stormie I could give a fuck about, as the Empire is human-dominant and black people are human last I checked. Just because the originals were made in the 1970s...

The lightsaber looks frankly retarded as the crossguard would be completely useless against another lightsaber as approximately a million people have pointed out.

Besides that, whatever. If the Star Trek reboots are any guide, it'll be at least mildly entertaining with the plot depth of a sheet of notebook paper anyways. And lots of loud noises to try and distract you from how vapid the plot is of course.

I wish Michael Bay directed this new Star Wars movie. There'd be explosions everywhere and every time lightsaber clashes and Force is used.

It wouldn't though. Just because a lot of people say something doesn't mean they're right.
