First batch of char names revealed.

I'm not sure if this is legit.... but it seems to be. So... Daisy Ridley isn't Jaina. Sith dude isn't Revan. And that's that.

 

So...there was a Reddit rumor going around that you can find here

I'm very hesitant to believe anything in that link because, as a SWTOR player, it sounds too good to be true. (SWTOR 2 on Frostbite 3 engine wut?)

But the first link has an interesting rumor that Vitiate (emperor from swtor) will have an influence on the main villain of episode 7. Also, Revan's mask might show up.

I'm extremely hesitant to believe the whole rumor, but at the same time there is a certain sort of sense of Disney throwing money at a Star Wars MMO as Episode 7 approaches..

 

No last name on her or Finn, which is interesting. Not a fan of either name tbh, Finn is particularly bad, but w/e I'm still stoked as hell.

Poe Dameron and Kylo Ren and BB-8 are pretty cool names, though...mostly I just like saying Poe DAMNeron.

 

Soon as I heard Poe Dameron, all I could think was, "Gotterdammerung"...

And Finn makes me think, "Jake."

The rest all sound Star Wars-ian.

What was it, Pasta? I can't find any mention of really recent leaks.

It looked like a guy in black robes with a mask holding that cross-guard lightsaber.

Didn't look very professional to me, but I only saw it once and didn't look too closely.

I still don't buy that they'd bring in Revan like that in this movie. Especially not as a Sith Lord again when he was supposed to have been redeemed.

 

Probably Kylo Ren then. Don't generally have chars with the same saber.

 

If that was really a photo of Kylo Ren then they're definitely going out of their way to make him look like Revan, at least. The mask wasn't a perfect replica and he wasn't wearing the armor either (that I remember seeing) but the allusion was unmistakable.

EDIT: Though for all I know it was some cosplayer with the lightsaber shopped in. Like I said I didn't really look that closely at it.

 

It was a very fuzzy pic of a hooded guy with a fuzzy mask, holding a fuzzy crossguard lightsaber with a very plain fuzzy background.

I'm calling "photoshop fan made leak" on this one.

 

Maybe a Revan holocron? That would be awesome. But yeah... I don't think Revan or Jaina or Jacen or any of the main extended eu chars will be making it into the film.

 

Especially not ones from thousands of years ago. Disney are making this, I don't see the mass-market appeal to bringing him in in any way.

I feel like JJ would rather invent his own characters if they're scrapping most of EU.

I'm saying that knowing nothing about JJ though, lol

It's not weird. It is a totally justifiable boner.

 

I've been trying hard to keep my expectations in check for this, but that trailer pushed me over the edge. Fully on board, excited, and desperately hoping it's as good as I think it can be.

One life raft I'm clinging to before I get completely swept up in glorious anticipation is to keep reminding myself that J.J. Abrams is the absolute king of making things look incredibly compelling that turn out to be only decent. Lost and Alias have something in common - their very first episodes are by far their best. The trailers for the new Star Trek movies were incredible, the films enjoyable but deeply flawed. Same deal with Cloverfield.

It's Star Wars, though. I don't think it's possible for me to be objective about this. Han and Chewie at the end of that trailer... I had the biggest fucking grin. I don't even care that that shot is probably 5 seconds out of a total of 60 seconds Ford is actually in the movie.

Let's do this.
