Are these as good as the Dresden Files?
I bought the first one, but just had to read The End of Mr Y and Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox before I could open the book.

IMO the first one is the weakest book that Butcher has put out, not because of the writing but because it sets up so much back story for the rest of the series. Slog through it and then the rest of the series is just as good as Dresden Files.

The last 2 in Codex Alera are just as good any the the best of the Dresden Files. The second one is on par with the weakest of the Dresden Files( foul Moon in my opinion). The first the worst but still decent.

Yes. We get to find out about Michael and it doesn't take up valuable page space in 'Turn Coat' thank you Jim!

Even if he is no longer a Knight of the Cross, I would almost feel sorry for any of Harry's enemies that try to get to him through Micheal, God protects his own. That and may God help the mortal, immortal, wizard, Sidhe, dragon, etc... that pisses Harry Dresden off.

About the above, we know that the nails of the cross were inserted into swords that now belong to the Knights of God (well, one to Sanya the other two to Dresden), but what about the Spear of Longinus, the weapon that pierced the Jesus's ribs?

Do you all think that it will come to play at some point? So far we know that none of the Denarians wield it, or they would have used it by this point, so the question remains whether it is real in the Dresden-verse and hasn't been seen yet, or if Butcher isn't going to write it in.

I can't help but admire the speed in which Jim Butcher writes...
He has TWO major series and many sideprojects like short stories, Backup and now this novella...

And JKR took mor than two/three years for one.

But I'm not complaining, just very, very impressed^^

It seems like forever between new books but when you step back and really look at it its amazing. It took JKR over a decade to write 7 books and Butcher does what 14 books and how many short stories and novella in under 10.

    Even more than 14.
    10 Dresden Files
    1 Spiderman
4 Codex Alera (the fifth is coming in december)
1 extra Dresden Files novel (Backup) coming in October
1 extra Dresden Files novel coming in January
    + many Short Stories...

So 15 right now and at the beginning of the next year 18
...some author can only dream to reach such a number of books in their life and he plans to write 23 Dresden Files book + who knows how many extra books + even more short stories + 6 (or more?) Codex Alera books.

    And maybe even another series!

    Jim Butcher is the future

And Ramirez and what kind of test she 'failed' to not be considered White Council material...

But so many characters deserve such an own novel or an own series...

Nicodemus has 2000+ years and what he must have done in this time
Or McCoy and his work as the Blackstaff, Bob's past (exeptionally his past with Mab), Harry's parents (how did these two met?) etc.

(That's the problem with so many good characters in one series^^)

He has also mentioned several series he wants to write after The Dresden Files.

Jesus Christ, he's already got Dresden and Codex Alera going... and he's got plans for more? He's now officially my favourite author of all time.

Yea, I think he said it was either a scifi type series or another fantasy series. But really who cares? It's more either way.

Whos the next of Harry's friends/allies to get seriously hurt. First we had Elaine way back when, then we had Susan, skip a few, and finally we have Micheal and Ivy. Whos next?

My wish is for it to be Murphy and hopefully she dies.

Nah. He'll save Murphy for something big. My money is on Billy and the Alphas. Failing that, Toot Toot when Mab comes to collect favor number three.

Dont suggest that. Murphy is only a few steps higher than Ginny on my Annoyometer.

Eh. Until Small Favor, Murphy didn't really bug me. Now she annoys me, but it'll take a lot for me to put her on the same scale as Ginny.

Small Favor absolutely ruined Murphy in my eyes. She is a mortal, completely ordinary women who thinks because she is a cop and knows a few things that is ready to run with the big dogs and constantly pulls the Its my duty card all the time.
