Personally I hear Changes, I think Changling? Seem like Fae magic to me.

She didn't appear in the last book, so why now?

I see your point, but "Lash returns" is a topic that keeps showing up on virtually every Dresden forum. Before the last 2 books were even released most fans just assumed she would return, and yet we have yet to see any evidence to say otherwise. Okay, I get that she is a great character, and probably a valuable part of Harry's mind, but her returning would seem so cliche. Plus there are other angles this story should be working on that doesn't revolve around the Denarians, like those favors Harry has to return, etc.

I see this novel signifying a massive change in the whole of the Dresdenverse. I honestly have little to back this up, apart from a few things.

Firstly, every single novel so far has been two words, both words the same length. Now it is just one word: Changes. That in itself is quite significant, I think.

This is book 12 of 24. Half way. Nothing huge here ,but if he was going to change things, this would be the place to start.

The first book in which he will leave Chicago. Pretty sure Ortega isn't going to come to Chicago to do the ritual, besides the cover art and everything else also suggest a change in location.

Couple these facts with the statement that the apocalypse will occur sometime within these books, I well think that this book will be when the first major events preceding it occur, or it just occurs in general.

I'd be interested in any opinions you guys have on the idea.

 

I'll follow you on this. Butcher himself said the title was a clue to what's happening - ie Harry's life is about to change. Now, this might be as simple as he has to move, or the Beetle finally gives up the ghost, but I'm guessing it'll be a tad more significant.

I'll also agree with the mid-point being the best place to switch things up.

However, just to be an ass, I will point out that Harry went to Scotland in Turn Coat, and the cover art rarely has anything to do with the story.

I didn't know Dresden Files was going to span 24 novels? But that had me thinking, Changes. It could mean Harry can stop being a wimp, can accept Mabs offer for the Winter Knight and lots of other cool shit that probably won't happen but if it does it would be awesome.

Also I used to actually like Susan but hiding the fact that Harry has a daughter from him destroyed that and Harry better bitch slap her ass...

EDIT: I just looked on his site and he said the audio book would be read by James Marsters... Anyone listen to any of the audio books? Is he good?

 

I think he's the one that always does the Dresden Files books, and if that's true, then he does a pretty damn good job. I listen to them every time I end up driving cross country (which happens depressingly often), and so far they've been quite good.
