Hey guys lets hope I did this right. I searched the forums using the keywords "nicknames" and "names" but couldn't find anything similar to this except for that one Potter Law where Harry shall never be nicknamed Pronglet or Prongs Jr.

Basically I initially planned on posting this thread in Fanfic Discussion since I wanted to ask the members' opinion on a good nickname for Harry Potter in relation to him killing the Death Eaters for my own fic in the works (ex: in some fics the second war against Voldemort is actually a war and the Death Eaters give Harry a name since he is exceptionally good at killing them). I'm basically stuck in a rut where the only names that pop up for me are cheesy names that refer to the color of his hair or eyes...yea I know. Anyway I was wondering what names you guys came along or think are good for Harry or if I should do one at all.

Nicknames would be extremely story-specific, and even then they'd only be needed for Harry when he does his killing anonymously. The rest of the time he'd be either 'Potter' or, depending how good he is, 'oh shit it's him'.

If its Harry Potter killing Deatheaters then they will call him Harry Potter, not the Serpent Speaker of Sodomy. Hermione is not the Bucktoothed Bitch of Bestiality. But Ron may just be the Freckled Faced Failure of Faggotry.

How long did it take you to think up those nicknames? Because if you did it on the spot then it's rather impressive.

 

Yeah, don't use nicknames. I get so pissed off when I see fics with nothing but stupid nicknames, like "'Mione" and "Cub". *shudders*

 

The ony nickname I could ever accept was "DarkSlayer" from the Hero series and only because it fit in so well with the entire plot and the undertones. But that is the exception that proves the rule, nicknames are, apart from the one case IMHO, always shit.

Nicknames never work for me (again the exception is the hero trilogy). Harry Potter is a well known person and figure. His features are distinguishable, and he's famous (at times infamous). There really is no need for a nickname.
Maybe it's the fact that I've heard him called: Prongs, Prongslet, Prongs Jr., Cub, Pup, Eagle Eyes, Talon, SilverWing, The Golden Boy, the BoyWonder, Scarhead, Scar, and Scarface that I don't know if I can stomach another nickname without getting an ulcer.

 

Hell, yeah, the usual nicknames are almost always retarded or cliché. Half of the authors writing "Harry grew up on the street/in an orphanage" name him 'Bolt'. That wasn't bad when I read it the first time, but it's annoying now that I read it for the 100th time.

If the Death Eaters really fear him, don't think of something cool. If you really intend to avoid his name use just "Him". But there is no real need for that. IP82 in his post DH-fic "The last dinosaurs roar" has a scene probably similar to scenes you might think of:

Here the nick appears rather as an adjective than a real nickname. The name 'Potter' is enough to stir up fear. Your Death Eaters might use 'The Chosen One' or better 'The Boy Who Lived' in a similar way like 'The Devil's Chosen', but it should be just his name that causes the fear.
