Just about every "Harry travels back in time to re-do the war because he has lost everyone but killed Voldemort" fic has it that the trio, or sometimes a pair of them or sometimes just Harry do a lot of research, training, become elite warriors, destroying the horcruxes. However, I have yet to see a fic where it actually tells the story of this time period, where Harry looses everything.

I think it could actually make a very good, though probably very dark fic. You could either have it as the bog standard trio H R and Hr who are the mian characters, or you could keep Harry and have it that Ron hasdoesn't feel he is up to such a front line job, and Hermione feels she is more inclined to research, perhaps have them decide that after their first mission after the horcruxes. You could then have Harry team up with whoever you liked, within reason of course, or have him go it alone.

As i say, just an idea, but I think it could make a damn good fic.

If that's the case, then I agree with you. Since it is "not a challenge but an idea" I can't really roast you alive for not having a plot to go along with the basic idea. If that's not the case...then I'm an idiot.

 

I'm not real sure what you are suggesting. More often than not, when Harry goes back in time, he goes back to his parents' time. I figure it would just be easier to go back all the way and kill FirstYear!Tom. It's not like it would really bother someone who has lost everything to do something like that.

 

I think he's suggesting the story of what exactly led to Harry going back, i.e. a description of the war that was lost, not the war that Harry is trying to re-fight.

 

im not say write a go back in time fic, im saying that the fics where harry goes back in time to when he is a first year or around that age all have that before he goes back he has nothing left, but has killed Voldie.

Write the period of time they all mention, when Harry is hunting the Horcurxes, but loosing eveyrone he cares about on the way.

 

I think this is a good idea. There are few good post-HBP stories without some time-travel and this seems better than most others.

Maybe if the author never let on that everything was going to fail ... I mean, how frustrated would you be as a reader to follow a fic, see everything go wrong and everyone die and then when Harry finally vanquishes Voldemort - only to decide he wants to do it all over again? It's not a very fulfilling end.

 

a prologue is the word your looking for, but thats not what im thinking of. Just have it as a fic on its own, I merely mentioned the time travel bit because thats the sort of scene thats used to give harry cause to go back in time, but i have never actually seen it written, merely mentioned briefly.

 

So, more or less you want a fic where Harry looses everything and everyone, but trains fairly hard and possibly still wins the war, though that is not a requirement, right?

 

The correct word is a Prequel. Basically it seems that you want a fic were in those "redo" stories, that actually tells the tale of Harry's first attempt at killing Voldemort, but loses all his friends etc and at the end of the fic, goes back to redo it.

Why is everyone getting the idea that im wanting a fic written that is a prequel to one of the re-do fics? All im saying, is that a fic where Harry trains pretty hard, eitehr with otehrs, or on his own, and looses everything whilst he is fighting the war, would be good. Why would I want it to be that he then went back in time. It finishes the fic, when Harry kills Voldie, or a chapter or two after that certainly.

 

What he's asking for, is a story explaining why Harry ever went back in time. A separate story.

I agree, it could be a good fic if done correctly, but arkeus has a point, there could be way too much angst in it. It would have to include a lot of other stuff, at the very least action, to balance out.
