    Title: Not Your Savior
    Author: Lyric Z D
    Rating: T
    Genre: Alternate Universe, Angst
    Pairing: Hr/R
    Status: WIP
Summary: At sixteen, Harry made a terrible mistake that will cost him for the rest of his life. His new necromancer teacher saves him, giving him new abilities and a strange new appearance in the process. Over the course of three years, the war with Voldemort progresses and the Order of the Phoenix is losing. Even their most powerful Auror, Harry Potter, cannot stop the newly-immortal Dark Lord. Nineteen-year-old Harry decides to return to a time when he could. His sixteen-year-old self must take his place in the grim future. AU, time travel, themes of suicide/depression.

This is one of the rare good & active Dark/Independant-like stories that I managed to dig up from FictionAlley. And a rather obscure and unknown title to boot, which makes this find so much sweeter.

The plot is standard "powerful Harry travels back to past to change bleak future", only with a twist - young Harry isn't merged with the old one, but is sent into the future to take the old one's place. Original idea, if nothing else. Other high points include (old) Harry's unique powers (necromency, empathy) and a very interesting mentor OC.

Downsides are rather callous maner in which Harry uses/learns his magic (too fast training) and mentions of suicide - it's not exactly overly angsty or emo, but still takes way too much space.

Dunno if this fic will stray at some point or not (it's only like 15K at this point), but it's good enough for now IMO.

I really liked this, though the depression and that was a bit much. It's quite original, I loved the concept of the Harry's switching - a few good points raised here too, like using Harry as a 'weapon'.

Dunno if I particularly like Shea - seems like the author is a bit in love with him. Still, very recommended! And I'd leave a review too, there's shit all there (literally, she's averaging about one review per chapter). Great find!!

I think this story is great, as long as there isent to much more with depression and such. I also like that past harry does not just disappere when the future version showed up.

Its a good start, only 3 chapters though. I liked the necromancer parts. They were awesome.

I liked it, but I had trouble reading the third chapter. I felt bad for Shea

Ak, this fic is really shitting me now, I'm not reading any more past chapter 7. Harry's a fucking weirdo.

The author is the biggest ponce too - from an A/N:

"Thank you, to those who reviewed! You are awesome! However, we’re still facing a 2.84 percent “bothering to review” rate, and that upsets me. If this rate doesn’t get higher, I may stop posting. Continue writing for myself, but stop posting. How about that, eh?"

    Pph. I'm quite disappointed.

Story is up to chapter 17 on FFN so people may want to read that version instead.

Actually rather good stuff IMHO. The author did a pretty good job with the characters, angst aside. Making the two Harry's exchange places in time was refreshing, I've only seen that done once before, in a fairly recent BTVS fic. Both story-lines kept my attention and enriched each other. Necromancy was pulled off nicely, though it could have been used more. The possibility that Older!Harry might join Voldemort as a spy is rather tantalising as well, and I'm expecting some good brutality in the future if the author updates again.

The main downsides for me were angst, some parts of the OC's personality and irregular chapter length.

A good story on the whole, though my opinion may be coloured by my low expectations from when I started reading.
