Okay so I just read Broken Victory a little while ago,and I was absolutely bloody amazed at how incredibly awesome that story is. The quality and the writing of it was just superb that I think I'm gonna read it again just to go over it and see it's genius.I think to me it out beat any other story in detail and how it makes you think,it totaly captivated me from 2nd chapter on.

So I was just wondering what is the number 1 story you have ever read?Maybe include a little summary or a link or something?

It is a bit broad to say a number 1 story. I have read some of the more epic stories quite a while ago, and standards and tastes have changed since then. By an obscure system of mine, here are the recommendations:

Harry Potter and the Summer of Change

I know some of you here will criticise me for it, but I enjoyed the story. Yes it has too much sex in it and some of the elements have become cliche nowadays, I truly enjoyed it at the time and can still get immersed in it.

Summary: Harry's summer of shit post OotP turns for the better when Tonks gets the assignment to be his guard. Obviously a Harry/Tonks story with Harry being proactive about things without turning into a godlike being.

I really enjoyed Lord of Caer Azkaban by Rorschach's Blot, although I feel as if the last chapters were worse than the first. It is alas abandoned I believed and not finished.

Summary: A new twist on the Azkaban story line, with my personal award for the creation of a new society.

I'll edit this post when I think of some more.

 

hmm I have actually read the summer of change but I don't think I have read Lord of Caer Azkaban. Summer Of Change was an excellent story though the sex got very annoying after a while. Man I can't believe how long It's been since I have read that story

 

Not my favorite story, but is still a good fic so far is the story on Ficwad, Harry Potter and the Blood Rose. If I remember correctly it's and AU of OotP, and features Dark!Harry, with multiple pairings.

 

OK, I'm excluding all unfinished stories and grouping all series. Top 5 HP fanficions of all time that I can think of ATM (in no particular order):

- Where in he world is Harry Potter + 2 sequels, by nonjon
Super!Harry + humor, a winning combination.

- Reign of Power by Fayr Warning
Fantasic writing style, characterization and overall dark, noirish atmosphere.

- The Awakening Power by Sib
The best canon coninuation story ever. What HBP should have been like.

- Bungle in the Jungle by Jbern
Unique perspective and setting, cool atmosphere.

- A Second Chance at Life by Miranda Flairgold
Probably the best upgrade of HP universe ever. Original and interesting.

Err, two more runner ups...

- Blind Faith by xyvortex
The best (completed) AU I can think of ATM. Well balanced characterization, originality and dynamic plot (where stuff actually happens).

- Stronger Than Hope by Alaunatar
Best H-Snape interaction ever, exemplary story in every regard.

 

The Awakening Power by sib was a masterpiece at its time, and still is to a point. I remember that being one of the first stories I red. For those who have not read it yet, definitely do and remember it was a while ago:

yea I remember reading Awakening Power and it was also one of the first I had read. I think the very first story I ever read was Heir Of Gryffindor by Brent. Pretty good for it's time.

 

All the stories that really captivated me, or I thought were awesome by the time I had finished reading all available chapters. Ascending in alphabetical order.

I thought the story to be excellent by the time I had finished reading all the available chapters. Gore, sex, violence...what more could I have asked for?

Temptations of a Dark Soul by Amerison

Left with a shard of Tom Riddle within, Harry Potter struggles against memories and feelings not his own. While Britain succumbs to fear and hysteria, he must fight two sides: the power games of Lord Voldemort as well as the darkness inside his own mind.

Quite possibly the most 'awesomest, bestest and fascinatingzest' fanfic (in my mind) once I had finished reading it...I'm still not sure what made it so, but a lack of updates quickly made it sink back to 'just awesome'. ToaDS was also one of those fics which made me stare agape at my screen for moments at a time, it was one of the stories that catered to my every fanfic whim. I'm not even sure what made it so awesome in my mind...I think it was just the 'Explodra' spell.

Ok, so the summaries sucked for those stories, but once I was done they left my mind in such a stated, just in awe at the type of person who would have been capable of writing such things. Lust was amazing in the beginning, fresh out of HPANA.com it quickly opened my eyes to the other side of the fanfiction spectrum. Oedipus started my infatuation with Harry/Lily and quickly set off a fascination with all things incest. Of course once I joined the site and after a year or so, the 'awe' wore off.

I guess those are about it. The thread did say number one story, but when I thought about it, these where the ones that came to mind. I'm probably overlooking some stories, but then again they couldn't have been that great if I can't remember them at the moment.

 

"Make A Wish" by Rorschach's Blot

Harry has learned the prophesy and he does not believe that a schoolboy can defeat Voldemort, so he decides that if he is going to die then he is first going to live.

It's my all-time favourite. Though, Rorschach's fics get boring after a while (you've read one, you've read all of them) it doesn't change the fact that it's excellent. I never really chuckle while reading or watching TV, but with this one I couldn't stop laughing in front of my computer.

 

"Queens Of Darkness, Ladies Of Light" by Thalarian


War is raging across the world, and Voldemort has done the unthinkable. Now, with time running out, can Harry harness powers that he knows nothing of? While killing the people he loves most? PostHBP. HarryMultiSlaveDom. Full Summary Inside.

My all-time favorite story. Queens only has two chapters, but those two chapters are simply magnificent. Words simply fail to describe the sheer awesomeness that is Queens of Darkness, Ladies of Light.

 

I assume that choices aren't limited to Harry Potter. The best fanfiction story I've read is of Halo, shortly followed by a Star Wars story, then Lord of the - oh hell, I'll make a list.

This is a Potter verse fic, but it is centered upon Tom Riddle. It's the best of its kind, and my favorite fic depicting Voldemort's rise.

Dark Harry is Dakaath Prince of Darkness will always be a favorite and Im stilling hoping someone I wont name will find a way to finish it.

Second Chance series is a good one as is Reign of Power, Summer of Change was a good fic too at the time I read it. Awakening Power is one of the only H/G fics I have ever been able to stand.

However I am afraid that my favorite is a tie between Dakaath and Bungle in the Jungle.

 

Maybe not #1 but way up there...

Pretty much everything you could ask for in an indy!Harry fic.

 

This one-shot is epic. It's the only fic that's ever gotten above a 5/5 for me, and there are only three fics out there that I gave 5/5 in all Harry Potter fandom. The best fic I've ever read in my life.

Scratch that, it's the best literature I've ever read in my life other than Quenta Silmarillion. Coincidentally, this one-shot's also about that book.
