Planning on a GTX 1070 for my next build, since it's more or less in my price range and should out perform the 980ti. I'm rocking an overheating Radeon 6850 still, with a CPU produced in 2009 (AMD x4 965). Honestly the system I have is still sufficient for my needs, but it's 5+ years old and I hate the case and the GPU is overheating every time I turn around.

    Excited for later :awesome

Im pretty sure I read about there being some sort of ban on electronics being exported by Amazon in the US etc.

I remember trying to find… what was it… some kind of temperature gauge or something, and I couldn't get it shipped to Aus from the US due to regulations something something about being unable to ship electronics out of the US.

This was back in 2013 or something though, so I have no idea.

I was looking to rebuilding my computer. Already got the case for christmas (and still haven't done a thing, duh...), so I guess I'll wait for the 1070.

My current build is nearly six years old, so it's time, but I don't play as much anymore and even though I have the money I'm still a cheapskate and don't want to part with it.

    Maybe it'll be a 980Ti instead ;)

    Doom gameplay on 1080

Looks so good and smooth. I like the kill animations in Doom and unlike other games with kill animations it doesn't look like it takes much time.

It's shaping up to be a sweet looking card. I might get one to replace me 970. I might be pawn it off to my brother's girlfriend.

So what we're saying here is my R9 290 series is probably going to be a bit outclassed?

Great scott, that's a whole lot of power. Can't wait to see the look on Mrs. Seattle's face when I tell her what kind of money I'm about to drop on one component.

Well, not sure when I'll be upgrading, but I guess I'll definitely be going for Nvidia this time around.

An Intel/nVidia solution is definitely what I'm aiming for. I may buy the system without a video card and purchase a 1070 a few months later.

Well the Intel bit should really be without question. And processors are honestly awful in comparison, the single thread performance is terrible. You'll get better performance from an Ivy Bridge i3, much less a haswell or skylake i5 or better. Outside of specific heavily multithreaded applications you'll get far better performance, to say nothing of energy efficiency. And even if you need heavily multithreaded performance get a haswell-e series or a xeon.

Don't forget that $107.18 of that is GST.

The $1000 GST threshold on imports still exists for now, so you can save yourself some dosh by importing so long as your total order is below 1k.

Dunno. I haven't imported anything in a few years, but some of the shipping redirection companies looked alright if you have to. There were good discussions about them on Whirlpool.

Well, it's harder for them to ship to Australia because the packages have to be stopped halfway there, opened, and the contents turned upside down.

It's what keeps stuff from falling up when Australians open their packages.

That's not even taking into consideration the flame thrower teams they employ to keep the deadly wildlife off them at the airport.

'Course, it has caused a few wildfires...

Anyway, that all adds up to extra overhead, and that money has to come from somewhere.

It's 92 degrees in my room right now, so that may explain why this post is so rutabaga.

I think i'll pass anyway. I'm not gonna VR on PC and I play at 1080. 1070 is more than enough.

New Egg price for 1080 Founder's edition is USD 700 = AUD 974.25 base price
Base price + Oz Market Considerations (eg. Mandatory free 12mo warranty is USD 35 = AUD 48.71 (new egg price)) = AUD 1022.96
    1022.96 + GST = AUD 1125.256

All of a sudden that AUD $1179 is looking quite reasonable. I wouldn't call it price gouging.
