Yeah, and I definitely need a new card. Pretty much all of this year's games say I don't meet the recommended specs, and most say I don't meet the minimum.

And the only factor is my video card; everything else exceeds the requirements. I'm rockin' an i7-4790 with 16GB of ram... and an MSI R7770 (1GB Radeon I bought in 2012). :(

On the bright side, almost anything available now would an upgrade (but by no means "future-proof").

It's apparently going to be 599 usd for the non founders edition 1080's, which should be low enough to avoid the 1000 threshold for GST even after shipping / insurance etc.

Awesome, especially since it's cheaper (pre release) and more power efficient (I think? 30%, right?)

For fun I checked my previous PC invoices and here is my graphics card history:
    Code:
    2004 Radeon 9550 128MB DDR
    2008 Powercolor HD 3850 PCS 512MB DDR3
    2011 Gigabyte Radeon HD6970 2GB Overclocked
2013 EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti FTW Signature 2
    2014 EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Superclocked 3GB
2016 EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB
I would have stuck with the 6970 and potentially with Radeon, but I received an Nvidia 3d Monitor and... yeah, enough said.

    hm.

    FX5500 (2004)
    6600 GT (2005)
    8800 GTS (2007)
    GTX 275 (2009)
    GTX 480 (2011)
    GTX 960 (2015)
    GTX 980 TI (2016)

    I would have skipped the 960 - I didn't realize I'd be buying a 144hz 1440p monitor several months later.

    heh.

Living in a third world country with a currency that lost half its value in the last two years and has an 100% tax on eletronics, I can say I hate all of you.

While I am definitely going to get a 1080, I'm going to wait till some of the other versions that are not the founders edition come out. I heard early June some of the EVGA 1080 versions should be coming out at a cheaper price. Should be able to at least save myself $50 and end up with a better card.

I'm a bit perplexed. The place I ordered from said the batch would arrive on the 7th, and yet apparently it's being delivered today? How strange.

I had a dream last night that I had the card and I was running at unrestricted 300fps in Overwatch.

You probably should have waited a few days for the AMD Polaris 10 benchmarks to make a final decision if you could have waited 1-2 months before buying:)

What they show sounds pretty competitive to a 1080 in a CF config and still a lot cheaper.

for AMD's "marketing" spin but the rest of the thread is worth reading to get more insight.

Counterpoint, you have to have a crossfire setup, and shooting yourself repeatedly is preferable to dealing with multi-GPU setups.
