Yo guys. I'm looking for something that Churchey recalls reading on the Dresden Files Forums. It was a fan-based 'profile' of Harry Dresden, written from the perspective of the wardens. Apparently it goes right from Book 1 to at least the end of Changes. It sounded pretty interesting to read.

Gimme a heads up if you have any idea what I'm talking about.
    Cheers.

I have read that, I'm damn sure of it.

Welp, time to go hunt it down so it'll stop bugging me.
    And I deliver.

Also, if you haven't read it, you should. It's good.

When all the facts are laid out like that, I really get why the White Council are pissing their pants about Dresden.

That was really cool to read. Cheers for linking that.

I was hoping that it had been updated since I read it a bit after Changes came out.

I mean, he comes back from the dead, and how on earth would you write a report on the events of Cold Days?
    *Outsider Presence Detected
-Large scale invasion of outsider forces
-Dresden allegedly engaged in direct combat near the island Demonreach while leading the wild hunt. Reportedly engaged in combat against a Walker (banished).
-In an unclear confrontation between multiple parties, Summer Lady Lily (previously ascended via Dresden's actions) and Winter Lady Maeve both perished. Note: Dresden's warlock apprentice and known fugitive Molly Carpenter has ascended to the position of Winter Lady.

One of the things I think is really cool about that file is how it offers insight into how the Council thinks of things. They always refer to vampires by gender pronouns, but do not say a vampire was "killed" only "destroyed." Not only do they not consider their foes anything approaching human (to be fair, they're really not) but apparently they don't even appear as thinking beings to the WC. Interesting as hell.

They don't have souls; they don't count.

Well yes, but it's past even that. The council doesn't even seem to think of them as alive, they're just malevolent objects to them. Kinda interesting.

Nah, it's the more way you don't 'kill' a rabid dog. You put it down or have it destroyed. Except possibly in the case of Black Court. They aren't alive.

I don't agree with Butcher's classification system, all of these beings are sentient. Any other distinction is arbitrary. The free will thing is iffy, given that the universe is deterministic (though I suppose Butcher's might actually not be).

    Eh, it's all academic.

For example, if I, as a mortal, use my free will to take a gun and kill you, you're just as dead as if a vampire with no free will ate up all your blood. Whether there was choice or not, the victim is just as dead.

Indeed, so if I as a mortal kill everyone in the planet right now what does it matter since they are all going to die anyway?

I wasn't going for a nihilistic "everyone dies in the end anyway" point. I'm saying that making the distinction between free will and animalistic instinct murders is pointless. The motivations don't matter to the deceased, because they're the deceased.

To address what you're saying, it wouldn't matter if you were a vampire doing a bloodline curse on all of humanity or a mortal using said curse, because the victims still died.

I see, you are just looking at it from the wrong angle. Indeed from the point of the victim there is no difference but from the point of the one who did it there is. A being with a soul would have it corrupted, a soulless monsters wouldn't.
