Not really relevant, but I have such high hopes for the evolution of Litleo. I'm imagining a giant lion with a mane of flame... Like, I know this is a half assed Stoutland clone, but something like this, but a lion:

 

I've been pretty avoid-y for X/Y spoilers and reveals and shit, to make the experience all the more surprising when it comes out, but I just saw the sword Pokemon in your pics above, and I have just ravaged the internet for this thing. Because it - Honedge - is literally the coolest motherfucking Pokemon ever. Like, ghost/steel typed possessed sword thingie. As funny as it would be if it couldn't learn Swords Dance or anything actual cutting moves, it's safe to say that it'll have some kickass attack stat and those moves, and probably the potential to learn a lot - Air Cutter, Night Slash, X-Scissor, anything.

But the imagery alone. The fanfic ideas, with all the hilarity of anime-esque sword-wielding people in worlds they shouldn't be wielding swords infics, or use the backstory of Honedge being a departed human spirit possessing a sword (Like, heroic spirit shit. The crossovers, guys.), or even the idea that when a person wields it, the cloth thingie can absorb their energy and maybe lead to all sorts of mind-rapeage. Like, it's solid gold. Have one-on-one battles with people with just Honedges. SWORD DUELS, son.

The nicknames will be hilarious too. Excalibur, Masamune, Caliburn, Myrtenaster, Lightbringer, Amoracchius, Ragnarok, Master Sword. And hell, do a X/Y playthrough with just the trainer and Honedge, and you get this mental image of a trainer ravaging the countryside with his fucking sword, like Hero Of Time style. Change the nickname for different playthroughs and pretend you're goddamn King Arthur or Stannis Baratheon (Stag Pokemon and fire Pokemon!) or Saber or Michael freakin' Carpenter (God-y Pokemon!) Do a Zelda run: Honedge, Broznor (as a shield), and some fairy type Pokemon to be Navi (But you can box Navi if you wish!). Fuck it, I want a possessed bow and arrow too or some kind of archer Pokemon to add to the fun. Take Honedge and slay dragon types with it; YOU ARE FUCKING DRAGONBORN NOW.

The sky is the limit. There is a sword Pokemon, and it's already my new favourite.

 

You put in words all the reasons why I fucking love this new pokemon.

I have yet to see any haters for the sword pokemon. Everyone seems to find it pretty cool.

 

I was browsing tumblr yesterday, and there were lots of "it's a fucking sword/ are you serious/ IT'S NOT A POKEMON/ this generation's gone to shit" whinning.

Electrode anyone? Jeez.

 

I wonder about evolutions.

Normally, pokemon get bigger, spikier, and more impressive as they evolve.

Maybe a first tier Daghost, second Honedge, third Flambergheist? Or do you think it's a standalone/two tier?

 

I think it's quite probable that it's a standalone, though some sort of preevolution where the sword and scabbard are separate could work, I suppose. Maybe it could evolve into a two handed sword with ghostly aura? Or a sword and shield...

 

I don't really see what the big problem is. After the garbage pokemon I just gave up... Tho what Matt described sounds imo.

 

Ghost/Steel is such broken typing too.

P.s. Sword is actually your father, who died but loved you so much he had to possess a sword so he could keep you safe.

 

Ghost/steel that is technically levitating.

If it has levitate as its ability, it has weakness to fire, 4 immunities, and like a million resistances.

Also, nitpick, but the sword actually draws itself from the sheathe for combat. So that picture depicts the sword beheading a guy with its sheathe. Maybe just that badass?

I'll be honest, I don't like it. But I'm open to it. I hope it evolves into a sword/shield duo then into a full fledged suit of armor, but otherwise it will just be another pokemon I'll avoid using on my team.

I'm hoping it evolves into an empty suit of armour, too. Perhaps a headless one. Or one with a helmet empty save for two baleful eyes of blue fire staring out at you. Like two shiny Gastly.

As Kalos is pretty much France, Honedge may be based on the idea of traditional medieval castles and their iconic weaponry, suits of armour, and so on.

If other pokemon could wield it as a weapon in double battles, I'd be so happy.
