that 2nd goal by swiss was just dumb. The ref called an offsides, yet they still counted the goal

    SECOND ROUND!

    Today's Fixtures:

    Germany v Sweden [4PM GMT]

Prediction: 2-0 Germany. The Germans have a very good record in world cups and especially so in one in their own country. I don't see this Swiss team casuing them any problems and they should stroll into the next round. Expect goals from prolific world cup scorer, Klose.

    Argentina v Mexico [8pm GMT]

3-0 Argentina. Most (including myself) will expect the Argentines to pick up the pace and with a wonderfully talented squad of players, Mexico should be absolutely no match for the favourites. Watch out for Lionel Messi, the hot young Barcelona talent.

    I agree with MS.

Just for the sake a being a smart arse, I don't see the Swiss causing any problems either. Not when it's the Swedes that are playing anyway:)

I'm going to miss the matches today because I'm at a wedding. Seriously, what idiot arranges to get married during the worldcup?

    4 Minutes in, Germany scores.

I honestly don't have a prediction, the Swedes play well under pressure.

Hmm, I think I'll join in the discussion.

Nice goal by Podolski :) My whole family's screaming into my ear.

I predict a tie, or possible win by the Germans.

EDIT: 2 - 0! I think the Swedes are going to fall apart after this...

Another goal. Sweden still a chance albeit a very low chance.

Ha! They replayed the moment and that gleeful grin on the referee's face when he gives Lucic the red card is absolutely priceless. :D

The German defense might be fucked up, but the Swedes aren't doing much better. Only 24 minutes into the match, and the Germans have already gotten about 10 very close shots.

And now with one less player, I can't see them coming back now, although you never know...

GERMANY! The first 15 minutes were great. First goal after 4 minutes. the second after 11. And now with one less player, Sweden don't stand a chance I think.

That was the best 45 mins so far on the World Cup. Too bad that idiot referee ruined the rest of the match by sending off that defender for nothing. Sweeds don't stand much chance now.

Don't count Sweden out by any means.

They've shown against Englands apparently "great" team that they can recover quickly, and with ease.

If Frings doesn't make his fouls more subtle, I predict we'll see a Red and a change in tempo.

Well, we can only hope that some German get sent off early in the second half.

On the other hand, Sweeden stands a good chance at beating Sado & Mazo's record (6-0), which would be kinda cool... Hmm...

The game's over now and Germany is in the quarter finals. I think the Sweden played better this halftime although Germany dominated the game. They had many chances for another goal.

Did you see the amount of shots Germany took vs. the amount Sweden took? 24-5! Holy shit!

I feel pretty bad for Ballack, though. He takes around 7 shots a game and he hasn't scored yet...poor guy.

Where the hell was the Swiss team when we needed them? :D

Sadly it’s over, but it was expected.

Someone should punch the idiot. How can you smile when you ruin the game like that?

Word. You don't destroy a guys [hobby] job for 2 full, internationally broadcast games while smiling like "Haha, its completely allowed for me to throw whatever card I choose, ne-ner!"

    I would've decked him.

That would have wiped that condescending smile off :D

1 - 1 for Argentina v. Mexico. Unexpected, but it was an intense and rather fast-paced match.

2 - 1. Wonder goal from Maxi Rodriguez. Almost as spectacular as Joe Cole's against Sweden. Mexico have put up a great fight but they've paid for their explosive start with a poorer finish. I actually want the Mexicans to go through...

Germany was slated to win this before the match began, not a surprise with the German Team being as strong as they are. Same with Argentina, though Mexico put up one hell of a fight. The GER:ARG match will be something to see. Don't see Argentina defeating Germany though.

    Todays matches:

England v. Ecuador: I'm an England fan so I'm voting 2:1 ENG:ECU. Ecuador is a pretty good team and England hasn't gotten their act together yet.

Portugal v. Netherlands: Hard to say with these two. 0:1 POR:NED, I think.

Thanks for the support but I think Holland is going to crash out again (sigh). I don't think the Dutch offense has their act together at all. Apart from their choice in striker the dutch team's overall offence is terrible. The midfielders don't get into the box to help the striker out and the backs don't come up and take part in the attack. The only chance the we have of scoring is Van Persie or Robben doing something brilliant, getting past the defenders and somehow making the goal.

So my guess is that Portugal might get away with a 1 - 0 victory
