Got in the mood for a good angsty fic last night and remembered one I'd read ages ago where Harry becomes depressed over the prophecy and spends the entire of the next year setting up a plan to kill Voldemort by learning some advanced occlumency techniques that would lure him into his mind, trap him and kill himself; taking them both out at the same time.

It ended up as Snape taking him in and I stopped reading at that point but it was pretty good up til that point.

 

I read that too a long time ago. Not bad, as far as I can remember. The mentor!Snape was alright, and there was some true epicness near the end.

Too bad I can't remember the title either, but I'm looking.

LOL, sorry JWH. I looked at the first couple chapters again too, and the writing is pretty solid even if the angst is off the charts. I think I'll give this one another read.

 

Thanks for the link, it's just as good as I remember. Very angsty, but I like the way Snape has been portrayed and a manipulative Harry is a very entertaining read for me, even if it was solely so he could kill himself.

 

I went over it again, it's definitely aged well. Well written, a good Snape characterization and an interesting take on the fight against Voldemort. Wasn't too fond of the end, though. I lost interest in the last few chapters.

4/5, too bad the Snape-hate most members harbor would prevent it from ever entering the Library.

I fucking knew it would be in the library! I searched through the General section and skimmed the Dark Arts/Independent ones but since I didn't know the title I missed it. We need little descriptions for topics solely because of this >_>.

It's actually one of the better fics I've read in my life. It's not a whiny, angstfest like the ones all those 13yr old emos write. It's about Harry going slightly insane and dedicating himself totally to defeating Voldemort in this specific way.

It's about the manipulations he puts his friends through and the byplay between him and Snape as Harry tries to manoeuvre himself into position to go ahead with his plan while Snape tries to figure out what's happening and use him for his own gain.

Apart from the suicidal bit it's how a Slytherin!Harry should be acting and that's what I like about it. Read a couple of chapters if you don't believe me, there's an excellent example of how this fic works in the same chapter that Harry gets to Hogwarts and that sets the standard for the Harry/Snape interactions over the course.
