If that's the case, does that mean that it's implied here that haki acts as both a weapon and a shield against all types of devil's fruit powers? Clearly Law was strong enough to overcome Virgo, but it seemed to me that Virgo believed his haki was enough to keep him safe.

 

You are correct

 

The way I see it Law's powers work in conjunction with his swordsmanship. If Law can't cut you then his offensive options are greatly limited. Vergo's haki armor was so great that in the past Law couldn't cut him with his sword/power and thus got a beat down.

Though what you say may be true as something of the sort was said earlier by Smoker and perhaps demonstrated by the admirals.

 

Devil fruit users probably have to use their own haki to beat down haki masters.

 

Absolutely loved Law's little speech to Doflamingo. Am I the only one who got it as him kind of calling out the Emperor's for kind of selling out. Where they seem content to rule their slices of the NW but no longer really care about one piece and by extension being actual pirates. That's why he mentioned the marines amassing strength but not actually attacking the emperors.

I think its interesting how Monet is willing to die for him and it kind of doesn't seem to be that its a decision based on fear. I think that when Monet and Doflamingo first met up they agreed that if she fails him she dies and she accepted. I think this is a simple case of someone just being loyal to someone else.
