It's not established that they were just using King's haki when they clashed. Shanks' haki wasn't doing any significant damage to the ship either. As it is now King's Disposition haki isn't useful in a fight beyond waylaying fodder. Now Oda may flesh it out and make it more useful but as for now it's not something that's going to determine who wins a battle between two people on par.

Well that wasn't Observation Haki that's for sure. Also note the wood splintering when Shanks was basically holding back.

 

I don't remember, but can any of the other Straw Hats use Haki? It seems to be the only way to fight logia users.

Granted, I'm probably forgetting big parts of the story.

 

Zoro and Sanji have Observation and Armament Haki.

Not sure it's come up, with the other Strawhats. I imagine we'll see mention of it soon if they do, since things are ramping up into the fighting phase.

Bartolomeo has to be my favorite character introduced post time skip. Him spazzing out over Usopp and Robin was amazing.
