Luffy is great but damn is he simple minded. He's already seen and hear about haki many times by now, yet still hasn't thought about learning it. I mean, he has Boa wrapped around his finger and she for sure knows how to use Haki.

 

It's not like a lot of time has passed since he first heard it and can you blame the guy for having other things in his mind like oh, I don't know, saving Ace? Or maybe his crew?

 

I don't know man, I mean it's something that hurt him, the rubber man so I would assume that he'd at least ask what it was. If his goal was to save ace, wouldn't having some sort of knowledge of a power that can damage fruit users, not to mention knock a crowd of people unconscious, be useful?

 

You forget that Luffy's dense and incredibly stubborn. There's no way that he'll actually learn Haki until either A) Someone mentions it out loud so that he could hear it, or B) Actually ask someone how to defeat Logia users like Aokiji. And since he came to the wrong conclusion of creating Gear 2 and 3 as the problem solvers, B is out for the moment.

Think of it as basic uses of Nen in Hunter x Hunter. You enhance your own strength, knock people out with something like KI, and also imbue your weapons with it to make them stronger.
