So I finished my 500 words for the day, went to get a coffee and come back to find my computer had crashed. Not a big deal usually, as Openoffice's document restore works quite well and I had saved before I left anyway.

Then a little box named "ASCII Filter options" popped up. I opened my document and instead of letters everything was in fucking Hashtags. For example, instead of "The cow jumped over the moon" it was "############################################################################################################################################################################################################################"

Anything I can do to reclaim my work? It's only 500 words but still quite annoying and this has happened before.

Blaise helped me out with it on irc earlier. Recovered everything, even documents that I thought were lost to the ages. Cheers though. o/

To anyone using OpenOffice, you may consider swapping to LibreOffice instead...

Its also got some new features in some of the programs. SVG importing, better memory use, and less use of java.. etc. I've been plucking around in it.. Seems fairly good, actually.

How exactly were you able to recover everything?

Went to my appdata folder, then roaming and then looked up openoffice. There was a folder simply titled "3". Inside that were a shitload of other folders one of which was called "backup." Everything was in there, nice and neat.
