The author was probably inspired by Cxjenious's TPWWP, but his Black Prince is uninteresting.

And yes, katanas in Westeros is a bit... jarring.

Edit : I just read a bit more.

William is basically a living saint, doesn't have any flaws, and outsmarts people like Baelish.

    Yeaaaah, no, fuck that.

Oh and he also funds the Dawnguard, which is basically a Night's Watch that doesn't take the Vows.

I'd ask where he would've found the income to fund a standing army, but by the sound of it, I doubt that the author even considered that particular issue.

    Sounds familiar. :/
In the fic The Lion of the North by Atri exists an order of sworn men dedicated to the defense of the North. It's called the Dawnguard.

I'll read a few more chapters and see if it isn't too similar.

It shouldn't be. In TES the Dawnguard is an order of vamipire hunters.

It's also a good name as counterpart to the Night's Watch.

    Night = Dawn
    Watch = Guard

Any ASOIAF/ES mix like that is reasonable.

Yeah, it's pretty fucking terrible. But it's almost 200k words long and I love both TES and ASoIaF so I'm pushing through. If you read it as more of a TES fic I found it's easier to swallow, because there's so much shit that just doesn't fit in the world of Westeros. William is the literal definition of a Mary Sue (or Gary Sue or whatever) and I can't fucking stand Arya. This is literally her response to Cersei trying to get inside her head and break her and William up:

"I'VE ALWAYS CARED!" William suddenly shouted back before staring at the ground. "…I…I've only just begun to realize just how much I care for you. I…I think I'm falling for you." William looked back up into Arya's eyes. "I…I think I'm in love with you."

Arya eyes widened in surprise at William's words. But she heard the queen's voice in the back of her mind again and she turned away. "How do I know you're not just saying that?"

"…tell me then. How can I prove it?" William asked in determination.

Arya stared down at the ground as William waited. After a moment, she finally spoke. "The tournament tomorrow." She said in a small voice.

William blinked in confusion. "Do you…want me to win it in your name?"

"No." Arya replied before looking at him. "Knights always promise to win tournaments for ladies. I'm not like other ladies. I want you to loose against the Kingslayer. Not withdraw. Loose, on purpose."

"What?!" William said in shock. "Why something like that?!"

"So that you can prove to me that I mean something more to you than honor or duty." Answered Arya.

"I don't care about my own honor!" William denied. "But if I do this then I'll be dishonoring my house and my father who I said I would joust in his stead."

"I know that." Arya said. "You have to choose which means more to you."

    "But…I," William stuttered. "I-I just…I just can't."

"…So be it." Arya said as a shadow crossed over her eyes. "Goodnight, Prince William."

Which actually made me angry, and why the fuck am I reading this fic again?

Edit: Also, honourable mention for terrible parts of this story: when William describes his Legion scouts as using guerrilla tactics (exact wording), that sort of anachronism really bothers me for some reason.

I should say though, I've definitely read worse and I think the idea of a (fairly) full on fusion between TES and ASoIaF is pretty cool (some of the scenes setting up enemies in Essos and North of the wall are interesting), it just needs to be a lot better thought out and well executed. So y'know, just something to consider Hash...

I'm dying over here. Because that's a direct scene from A Knight's Tale.

    The result? This.

Well, I made it to the fourth chapter before pressing the X once and for all. The world building is just painful to behold. Dear God, the Blades(samurai types) are apparently ultra-badass - who would have guessed - and their katanas are also bawse. The only thing that can match Valyrian steel.

Then there is the fact that he's using Roman terminology for his legions. Shit, one of the dudes is named Tullius(sp?).

I have no idea what the author is thinking but it looks like he read some stories:
A Legion for Westeros by High Plains Drifter
The Prince That Was Promised by cxjenious
And maybe even looked up Hashasheen's own ES:S/ASoIaF Quest

And thought: Hey, I can do that, too. And mixed it all up.

Of course, taking into account that William 'outsmarted' Baelish when he was nine years old was a fair indication how this would go.

@Poytin: Bonus points(like) for Mark Andy who starred in the Knight's Tale.

While this story sounds pretty sad I feel I should at least point out that the katana called Dragonsbane the Blades and even Tullius are real things in ElderScrolls universe so there's at least a reason beyond being edgy for these gripes. Try and remember this isn't just a bad GoT fic it's a fusion of two completely different universes.

There could be some cool, interesting ways you crossover ASOIAF and Elder Scrolls. This fic is not a good example of how it could be done.

I mean, what's even the point of using Katana's in westeros. They're not effective vs mail or any half decent plate.

The problem with that fic is that the "powerlevels" are not even close and the ES part is shitting all over the ASoIaF part. There's no attempt to balance it out. It's basicly a royal rumble of all the good stuff from ES in the world of ASoIaF.

All the more hilarious, since the main character in a Knight's Tale has the name William.
I kind of want a Knight's Tale/ASOIAF crossover. Not bringing any characters over; just Jon Snow pretending to be a knight and competing in jousting. Maybe he falls in love with *insert character the ASOIAF fandom loves, not related to Jon Snow*. Actually, him falling in love with Margaery and having Joffrey be the stand-in for that asshole Count works pretty well.

I'm a bit out of it right now, so this is probably a horrible idea.

I'd read the hell out of that, if only to see how the author cleverly worked in David Bowie songs.

I gave this one a try, and I don't think I've ever seen a more blatant example of committing the "telling, not showing" mistake than the first ~15 paragraphs of this fic - in which the author basically runs down the list through every major character in GoT and tells you what William thinks about them.

Instead of, you know, demonstrating it though some kind of interaction or something, this fic takes the approach of having the narration tell us: "William had a very strong sense of right and wrong."

Anyone interested in storytelling who wants to learn about how to introduce and develop characters should read this fic with a giant sticky note at the top that says "DON'T DO THIS."

This is definitely an acceptable alternative, you just came to mind when I read the words 'GoT/TES crossover'.
