An OC/SI is born in some backwater town. Her mother is decently smart but her father is someone important. The trick is the entire story is POV of other characters that are not the OC/SI, so it will be interesting how the other characters see the four year old attempt to save the world and how the other canon characters interact. I should state the interactions are more fun than normal in this story.

There is one con besides it being a little slow. One really major con really. The author really likes Fem!Naruto and wrote a few Fem!Naruto/Douchebag stories. This does not bode well for the future.

I spent the last few hours compiling any stories found in both Other Fandom Almost Recommended Threads (and a few other threads that got linked here somehow).

    Edit: 2016-01-24

    Finished V2.0 of this.
-Implemented an (incomplete) Ratings System (Yes, Maybe, No). Additional user feedback and comments on the excel will be needed to make this viable.
-Implemented a Status Column (FIN - Finished, DISC - Discontinued, UPD - Updating, X - Dead Link).
-The following threads have been integrated into the archive:

    Fullmetal Alchemist?
    Stories You Wish Weren't Dead
    Avatar: The Last Airbender
    Yet another ATLA
    A Tribute to Forgotten Stories
    Bleach

More threads to be integrated in V2.1.

Also in the works are a separate list for Naruto, Avatar: The Last Airbender and DC - these being the largest fandoms (i.e. having the most stories in the archive) at the moment. A Harry Potter archive is being considered after Other Fandoms has been finished.

A thing I always suggest for excel lists, View > Freeze the first row.

One very minor error I was able to catch. You have the Naruto story, "Naruto: Shinobi Institute of Performance Analysis" listed as "Naruto: Shinobi Institute of Performance Arts". Only reason I was able to catch it is because I thought Naruto might be kinda funny in a performance arts setting haha.

Thanks and fixed! Also, would totally read a story about Naruto as a one-man theater troupe.

Working on compiling the Worm Fanfic Recommendation Thread next. And then maybe RWBY?

A few ideas I had to improve ease of navigation for the users:

    1) Creating Separate sheets for fandoms with a lot of recommended stories (i.e. Naruto, Worm, Mass Effect, My Little Pony?).

    2) Another sheet for all crossovers.

    3) Warning Tags of some sort? OC-centric, SIs, Slash, Oneshots? I'm not too sure how to implement this since it requires reading through all 600+ stories. While I am crazy enough to compile them, I don't think I'm crazy enough to read through them. One solution might be to enable comments and people who've read the story can suggest tags for it.

    Awesome work @Halt! You're a champion!

The concept of the story is really cool. A SI story told through other people's POV.

Really enjoyed the first two chapters of this story. Chiyoko (the mother) was a really likeable character and good POV. It was surprisingly interesting seeing a civilian go about her mundane life in a shinobi world, and you're always left curious as to knowing how much Katsumi actually remembers.

What really struck me was that Katsumi acts like a really poorly written child character. Because that's exactly what she is. She does the usual childish stuff, but it feels forced, like she's playing a role. Happy to act smarter than her age, but throws in little childish wants and needs to keep up the act.

And the reveal to her father is done really well. Did NOT see that coming at all.

But my interest has dropped a bit in the later chapters.

Because of who's daughter she is, Katsumi has basically been the center of attention of way too many major players that it's feeling a bit cheesy.

So far, every scene seems to have been made up of the same running gag of Katsumi doing manipulative stuff, or showing off her verbal sparring skills, to get little 4 year old wants. It starting to just feel annoying now, especially if she has actually retained her memories and is now just being bratty.

It'd have been a whole lot more interesting when her mental age actual starts creeping out people, rather than endearing them to her. As much as I loved the way the the reveal of Jiraiya being her father was played, I'm tempted to say I'd have preferred it if she stayed a nobody.

Hoping it stays interesting, which will probably mean doing something different (which will probably have to be switching to Katsumi's POV finally) since I think it's used up its potential as a story told from other's POVs.

    Great work, Halt.

Probably too late for this, but maybe for the Worm/RWBY ones if you get to that, include a link to the DLP post it was originally recced from? It would be cool to be able to easily click through to where people were talking about it in the thread to get a sense of how it was received.

You can always just search-> [fic name] or [fic ID tag] but, you know, would be convenient to have the link there.

Pretty minor if it ends up being too much of a hassle, though.

So far, I'm really liking this. The first two chapters were amazing and while the later chapters lost momentum a bit, I did quite like the portrayal of every canon character so far and I am curious to see where this all goes.

The SI being Jiraya's daughter I thought was well done. Yeah, it makes her a PoI to several major players but it should be fun to navigate in this time period regardless.

As to making her creep others out, dunno, in a world where people like Itachi, Kakashi, Orochimaru and others were relatively badass and strong early in life, don't see why she should garner that response. Hell, even Rin is 8 and an active shinobi already.

That said, it could be done, but that would only really work on the civilian mother and I quite like Chiyako and her role in this story.

So, 4/5 for now, definitely following this.

Leaves of Grass is adorable. The kids actually feel like kids. Granted, literary kids where they're all at least 10 but it just works so well and most characters have their own unique voice which really stands out. It's a great idea for a story, to do an SI from everyone else's point of view alongside some very clever and above all fun writing.

Jiraya's reactions to Do Good Dan are probably the best parts though.

Storm Warning: The Rise of a Champion by Atomitrox, a Pokemon fan fiction.

The tale of a young trainer and his Squirtle as they take destiny into their own hands, whether the journey takes them through the sun or the shadows. Adventure, friendship, love, and hardships... A lot can happen in just three years. Original region and characters.

It's been months since I've read this story, but I remember liking it at the time. Maybe it's just the dearth of good stories in the fandom that made me like it? I remember it having great descriptions of pokemon as well as a really badass Skarmory.

This is a story that I remember reading and liking a long time ago. I recently just remembered it so I thought I would leave it here to see what other people thought about it.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Shadows Under the Oak Tree: [FE7] Canas married a magic user partly to learn more about the anima system; her reason might have been just as selfish. A slice-of-life quiet drama set in mostly quiet Ilia.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

It's really old (written approximately 10 years ago!), but it's lengthy and still pretty good in my opinion. It's set in the Fire Emblem 7 universe, which I'm pretty sure is not a very popular fandom, so a lot of you probably won't have much prior knowledge. Knowledge of the game isn't too, too necessary though. If you have any other Fire Emblem knowledge (maybe you've played Awakening or Fates), that would probably be good enough. If you have never played Fire Emblem then you can just treat this story as a typical fantasy setting and you'd probably be fine for the most part.

Anyways, as far as the story goes, it's a slice of life fiction with a very slow burning romance (it honestly doesn't feel like a romance at all) revolving around the character Canas, who happens to be a completely optional and easily "missable on accident" party member in the game. It's mostly set before the game begins, but some of the story takes place during/after the events of the game as well. The author tries to stick as close to canon as possible, but because Canas is such a non-plot-important character, his backstory is very barebones, and sticking to canon still leaves a lot of room to tell an interesting story.

While reading through it a second time, some of the parts in the middle got a bit dull and seemed to drag on for too long. But overall I think the story is quite good, and really helps to flesh out Canas's character. The surrounding setting of Ilia is also quite well done. It's unique circumstances present some moral questions that really help to drive the plot along.

It's a RWBY Peggy Sue fic featuring Yang. The writing seems to imply it will avoid the common Peggy Sue pitfalls.

    Naruto - M - Horror/Suspense - WIP (21 chapters so far)

Dance of the Dog God by Tatarun is one of those stories I want to put down but can't.

It's an AU where Obito and Rin are alive, with Obito as Team 7's sensei, while Kakashi snapped and became a missing-nin years before the story started.

Pros: The characterization is well balanced. It's exciting, fast-paced, gritty, and clever. Lots of well-placed twists, enough to keep the story exciting without it feeling contrived or slapped on for the sake of excitement.

Cons: There's something not quite there about the grammar - probably the lack of commas. Also, it gets very confusing at times, almost like the scenes were smashed together.

There's one main overarching mystery involving Kakashi and his father, which is what's keeping me reading - I can't let go of unresolved mysteries.

In short, good storytelling, but I can't get over the writing and execution.

    Title: Stem
    Fandom: Naruto
    Rating: T
    Length: Oneshot, 4k words
    Status: Complete
    Genre: Humour
Summary: One day, Hiruzen has a brilliant idea. "Danzo, how would you like to be the leader of an autonomous but officially unsanctioned branch of ANBU that I can secretly use to root out traitors and dissent?" Danzo is not pleased with being dragged into this latest scheme. "Why do all your brilliant ideas make me look like an evil reprobate?" (Litter of Misfits)

Basically one of two oneshots I've found portraying a not-a-dickbag Danzo. There's not much to say considering its length, and it's nothing really special, but that's why I'm posting it in AR instead of the library. 4/5.

    Title: Wearing Robert's Crown
Fandom: A Song of Ice and Fire

While being an SI, this story can essentially be treated as an AU with an OOC Robert Baratheon after he defeats Rhaegar. It's written completely from the point of view of characters that interact with Robert, and so we are left to guess as to what is going on. Robert here is a bit of a Marty-Stu, but the writing is pretty decent and the author gets better past the initial chapters.

More than "a bit". The gary-stu is strong with this fic.

SI Robert makes ridiculous decisions, like wedding a minor no-name noble Crownlander or exiling Varys and it all works out wonderfully and everyone is better for it. In the case of his wife, Tywin happily accepts Robert's reasoning and weds Cersei to Ned Stark's brother as a consolation prize to increase his ties to the North. Even Cersei eventually comes to like the change.

Robert grants the Starks and Arryns their royal titles back ala Dorne. That's not great for long term Westerosi stability.

When Rob exiles Varys (instead of using or executing him), he moves to Pentos and using Rob's idea of a printing press he spontaneously begins a Pentoshi broadsheet newspaper. And then he cares about facts and journalistic ethics. Yes, really.

I think this is also the fic where Robert releases Jamie from his vows with a poorly considered reason and later increases the size of the White Cloaks to 49 and removes some of their restrictions regarding lifelong service, family and land.

There are so many wtf moments like those above. The SI behaves stupidly and without negative consequence. His bad decisions have ridiculously serendipitous outcomes.
