Not the most glamorous first post, but ^ didn't quite cover this fic in all its glory:
    It happened.

Not only did it happen, but if you read his accompanying Avatar/Mass Effect fic (his Mass Effect), he basically ignored everything about the Na'vi shown in the movie and made up his own bullshit.

I've been on a Naruto kick lately, so I'm promoting a brace of stories.

    7. In the Presence of Enemies » by bourkem reviews
A Naruto TwoShot. Having declined a position in the mission to retrieve Sasuke, Naruto is instead sent an another assignment. During his travels, he will meet an unlikely ally and face-off against unknown enemies. Rated M for for safety.
    Naruto - Fiction Rated: M - English - Action/Adventure/Romance - Chapters: 2 - Words: 13,852 - Reviews: 19 - Updated: 9-25-10 - Published: 9-25-10 - - Naruto U./Yugito N. - Complete

A great two-shot dealing with Naruto stumbling upon Akatsuki extracting the Nibi from Yugito. I'd actually categorize this as "Friendship" instead of "Romance".

The War of the Abyss » by Kyrrlatur reviews
Somewhat disturbing, though humor is present. Everyone's favorite Abyssal One meets Naruto. When you stare at the abyss, she will stare back at you and giggle. Naruto/Riful pairing. Some gore and dismemberment. Naruto/Claymore crossover.
    Naruto - Rated: M - English - Adventure - Chapters: 6 - Words: 33,459 - Reviews: 229 - Updated: 2-24-09 - Published: 9-23-08 - Naruto U.

An almost crack-ish story about an Awakened Naruto. What the author does with Tsunade and Sakura in this story is truly glorious.

This fic caused me to download the entire series of Claymore, plus the manga.

This is a fantastic story. I would say that it's worth more than almost rec'd. My beef with it is that it's so short, and
Hobbes doesn't make an appearance till the latest chapter
. I do feel that it's got a lot more to go until it's over, so I'm gonna be following this and posting it in For Review once the plot progresses some more.

Fullmetal Alchemist -- an "almost good" recommendation. It's a one-shot. I'm reading through a couple of others right now so I might edit this post to include them if any others meet the "almost good" criteria.

Masking the Symptoms -- One shot. Early mission that Mustang sent Ed and Al on. Ed got sick.

Full Circle -- This was good until it turned into Slash unexpectedly. Pity it's the only remotely well written one I've tried so far. After the end of the 2003 anime Ed went somewhere for 4 years then ended up back in Resembool (all that is covered in chapter 1 so it gets away from OCs quickly). It's not good enough to make up for the inclusion of slash/angst though. Damnit.

One of the posts up there mentioned "Redivivus", in Death Note catagory. I personally see that as a 5-star fic, and whenever it's updated (once in the last year, I believe) I can't wait to read it. Probably because of the lack of non-slash fics that aren't angst in that section, but oh well. Only a couple of others in the Death Note section are any good, imo.

A three shot by the same author as Redivius. Amazing fic, one of my favorites of all time.

It's a Big Bang Theory crackfic crossed with a bunch of fantasy novels/series/books/games that work surprisingly well, especially how it manages to capture the feel of the show somehow.

    Great for a laugh.

I really enjoyed this one. It starts out a little angsty, but after the first couple of chapters the drama is dialed down and the action/adventure is dialed up.

Eva and Tolkien by John Biles
Fandoms: Neon Genesis Evangelion, Tolkien (Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Silmarillion)
Length: Estimated 100,000 words + (it's in snippet form spread out over 30 pages on Spacebattles)
    Status: WIP

There isn't even a title for this story, let alone a summary. That said, the premise of this story is that in September of 2000, something stole Venus, screwing with the Earth's orbit, and awakening creatures long dormant beneath the surface of the Earth. Now in 2014, behemoths are attacking the surviving humans.

Pros: To me, almost perfect blending of the Evangelion and Tolkien fandoms. The characters of NGE are mostly in character (with a few logical alterations), and the giant robots (known as Rangers) make sense as they fight off the Lieutenants of Morgoth. Setting the story in Germany really works with the whole Tolkien fandom. The OCs to me contribute to the story.

Cons: There are two big cons for me. The biggest is that I've read the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and the Silmarillion, but I can't help but feel that I'm missing lots of references. Especially in regard to Silmarillion. The other major flaw is the characterization of Gendo. While other characters, such as Shinji are portrayed differently (such as the fact that since his introduction to NERV is so ridiculous, he's convinced that the whole experience is an incredible dream), Gendo just seems off. Right now he seems more of a jester than an evil scheming bastard than he is in canon.

Summary: Enjoyable read and updated regularly. Plus, the main characters seem to be wearing Rings of Power...

Tentative 4/5 to 5/5. I won't officially rate this or post this For Review until it's no longer posted in snippet form.

When I first saw this I was thinking "The hell? How can you cross this two universes?" but I checked it. And it's... bland. The writings is mediocre and doesn't pull you in. It feels rushed. And the cardinal sins - turning Bob into otaku, Dresden being able to almost kill an Angel with deus ex machina item and Lara and Nicodemus being members of SEELE.

There is only one IMO interesting concept - NeverWas - The Wastelands of Nevernever. Basically, everything gone downhill in Nevernever after Second Impact.

    Overall, guilty pleasure nothing more.

    This thread should not die!

I've been on a Ranma and a Naruto binge for a bit now, and eventually I did the dumb thing and combined the two. Here's some of the decent stuff that I found:

It looks like it could be good, and the writing is solid, so I'm following it with the hopes that it'll continue and be epic.

Ranma and Genma get lost looking for Jusenkyo and instead end up in the Land of Fire. Hilarity ensues. Only Almost Recced as it isn't very long yet.

I don't normally recommend stories, but Reap the Whirlwind (Naruto) by Ozzallos is fairly good so far, in my opinion.

It's a time travel story where 26-year-old Naruto somehow ends up in the past, but fortunately it avoids the common "sticking close to the canon events" and "unstoppable future knowledge" potholes that so many of the genre contain.

It's only almost recommended because it's only two chapters in and it contains a severe case of "avenger-Sasuke" who's willing to kill Sakura for extra training, amongst other minor annoyances.

Fairly enjoyable so far if you're into the genre, so depending on how the future chapters it might eventually be a good fit for the somewhat neglected Other Fandoms library.

    Maybe.

It's definitely too early to rate this fic in a proper review thread, and it's not because of its length. It's because it's a fic by Ozzallos.

If you don't know the name, then learn it now. Ozzallos can write decently, but his main gimmick is turning his male protagonists into women and then having them accept their "feminine side". He does this again and again and again with just about every fic.

After reading the first chapter of "Reap the Whirlwind", I thought that Ozzallos might finally be writing a straight fic of good quality, but then the second chapter was released. Did you notice the final paragraph of the last scene in ch2?

It looks like fem!Naruto is going on a lengthy away mission with Kakashi and Yugao, and the author has given us a contrived reason for Naruto to be female for the entire duration. Naruto could have been henge'd or masked as anyone for the mission, but no, Ozzallos demands that his male leads learn to love being women, so Naruto's now going to be Naruko.

This was shaping up to be a pretty good fic until that scene indicated the direction the story is likely to be taking from now on. Maybe Ozzallos can redeem this. I've liked a few of his other stories, even with the feminised male leads, so I'm waiting for ch3, but I think I'll be disappointed.

A couple of suspect stories for this thread:

Stargate: Faerûn » reviews SG-1 is accidentally transported to Toril and are quickly caught up in a battle to defeat the King of Shadows from Neverwinter Nights 2 Original Campaign on their way to try and find a way to return to Earth. Never played the game, but it feels like it might be following the plot pretty closely, which would obviously be a turn off if you played the game. Otherwise its pretty much what you'd expect with some fairly comedic moments: nothing special, but a decent time waster.

Legend Trapped by an alien collector, Lieutenant Commander Data discovers an early 21st century android excavated from the ruins of Sunnydale and a capsule containing the frozen body of one of the Eugenic wars most notorious figures...Buffy Summers.
    [IMG] Star Trek > Star Trek - The Next GenerationShayneT • FR18 • Chapters [3] • Words [4,294] • Recs [3]Reviews [53] • Hits [3,719] • Published [8 Apr 11] • Updated [10 Apr 11] • Completed [No]

Surprising to see ShayneT writing again, he's wrote a couple fun BtVS crossovers last year in Smallville Glory and Potential, and even if his writing isn't the highest caliber he has a high update rate and tends to complete his stories. So far it's been a bit angsty, but with the Buffybot and Data in hand and ShayneT at the wheel I'd be surprised if it turned into a train wreck.

Bump because I've found two fics that while awesome don't really fit into the library quite yet.

If This is a Pokeman by chutup:

I honestly have no idea what is going on with the story. It seems like some kind of Pokemon war fic but something about it just hooks you in and leaves you wanting more. It's rather dark and some of the lines in there are epic and despite it only being six chapters and 8,000 words long you'll still enjoy every second of it.

    3.5/5 IMO.

    Game Freeze by Nagashizuri

A guilty pleasure fic at its best. In short it's a crackfic that takes itself seriously. Or maybe it's a serious fic that likes to make fun of itself? And neither of them should work but somehow this does.

The first few chapters start off like a lot of crappy Pokemon fics just without the crappiness: Pointing out stupid things about the games and just poking fun at Pokemon in general. This doesn't mean that it's unenjoyable. Quite the opposite.

Around chapter four or five is where the real story starts and shit starts to go down. from there on out expect it to get progressively darker while still keeping the 'WTF LOL?' tone of the story.

    A solid 4/5 from me.

And if you do read either of them, drop the guys a review. the first one especially needs them.

    Avatar

    Between worlds

    and its sequel

    Tiger's Hunt

It's quite a massive story (1 million words atm), and personally I like it a lot. However, I don't really have a clue how it compares to other Avatar fanfics, I haven't read any other ones. Between worlds falls into a hole somewhere around chapter 20-30 and at that point I personally had the feeling as if it was some kind of soap with Na'vi, IIRC, but otherwise it's quite solid and enjoyable. The author has a very nice and regular update rate, too, with sometimes seriously massive chapters.
