Has anyone else seen this? Watch it if you haven't. It's made by one of the guys who worked on Adventure Time, and feels like it has a little bit of a Ghibli influence, but it's still an amazing thing to watch.

I won't say anything about it because it's one of those things best discovered as you watch it, but I thought it was fantastic. It blended plot, humour, character, and entertainment. There were constant surprises, and very little happened in the way that I expected. It was a real breath of fresh air. It was very dark at times, but there were also moments of levity. Light in the darkness. Gloom and joy.

When people say that cartoons can't be art, this is one of the things I'll direct them towards.

If you can, watch it in one sitting. It consists of ten episodes, each ten minutes long, so if you watch them all back to back it's a little like a movie told in an episodic format, which I really enjoyed.

Should this mean anything to you, it's been nominated for an Annie Award for Best Animated TV/Broadcast Production For Children’s Audience and for Outstanding Achievement, Directing in an Animated TV/Broadcast Production. I have no idea how seriously people take Annie Awards, but the titles of the awards sound impressive enough/

I watched this show about a month after it's release because I got sick of tripping on all the fanart on tumblr.

It's certainly unique, and voice-acting especially is over the moon. The songs were a delight and the ending was nice. Other than that, it's merely good rather than excellent. A B+ rather than an A.

From all the fanart, I already knew the brothers were in purgatory and came from modern times, which may have influenced my opinion. I don't think Writ went through enough character development. At the end he was able to admit to himself he was responsible for his brother and needed to protect him, but that's only at the end. I didn't find the Beast creepy either. His singing just confused me and while the solution to beating him was clever, I thought it was a bit too easy.
