"Worse comes to worst if we are discovered I could burn down the enclosure that the dogs are kept in with magic before we flee, keeping them from being tracking us with any accuracy. And I still think ignoring this wizard is an oversight."

Alright, so we need a decision. Please weigh in, preferably in character. Once a consensus has been reached, we'll move on.

"I still think we should kill the wizard first, in case he has some arcane method of tracking us, but I will consent to pressing forward and trying this ruse. We have to move, though, or we'll be caught for sure. Let's go!"

"And I feel that we'd be best served by just getting out of here, dogs aside, the longer we're here the more chance there is that we'll be discovered. If the wizard can track us then that's just something we'll have to deal with." Roland hisses, his voice dropping several octaves.

"I agree with Roland, we need to get out of here now. Also who knows how strong the wizard is? I'd much rather face him when we are at our best."

"We do not need to immediately kill everyone who may oppose us. When we burn this place to the ground, we can kill the wizard too. We sneak to the gatehouse, and out of this place."

"I agree with Roland as well. The methods he would use to track us are beyond our ability to counter in any event." Marcinus says quietly.

As you all march towards the gatehouse, light falls over your group.

"Hail the courtyard!" You hear from the walls. Looking up, you can see a guard standing atop the walls, holding a torch. In the torchlight, you can see him squinting at you.

"What's going on? Why aren't you at your posts? And... are those prisoners?"

    What do you do?

How far away is the guard from me/the party?

Marcinus glances quickly at the guard and then looks away.

About 10 feet away, but also 15 feet up.

"Grumblejack has escaped! He killed a bunch of prisoners and guards and we had to get out and take the prisoners or he would have killed us all. We have it under control. We need you to sound the alarm and get people down to the holding cells immediately!"

"And you didn't leave the prisoners?!" The guard yells down.

The guard pauses for a second. "And is it under control, or do I have to sound the alarm?" He sounds genuinely confused.

Loudly enough he can hear, Common
"Our apologies, it has been a... hard night. I believe what Sgt. Kylpha meant to say was that the situation is handled as best we can, but we will need reinforcements to actually cage the ogre again. We have the door to the cells barricaded, and a man guarding it, but we couldn't handle recapturing Grumblejack alone. And it might be better if we could get reinforcements and go handle it without sounding the alarm, eh? Maybe just bring some men and the Nose, and try to keep the Warden out of this? You know how he can be, and tonight has been tough enough without that. That is your choice, though; we bow to your judgement on the matter. Seeing our friends and comrades fall has perhaps clouded our own.

As for the prisoners, while it would have been easier to leave them to die, many of them have committed high crimes against Mitra. Those weren't merely going to the block, or the mines, but to burn, or hang. A clean death in combat is too good for scum like this. So we caught the remains when they tried to flee, and brought them with us to see Mitra's justice."

Marcinus attempts to use his body language to re-enforce the point being made.

    Bluff=25 + 2 (Marcinus's aid) + 4 (Roland's Aid) = 31
    Sense Motive = 17 + 10 (Bonus for being really, really suspicious) = 27
    Bluff successful!

The Guard frowns. "You speak sense, friend. The Warden is a bit of a hard ass. But I'm sure he's too busy stroking his owl to come down and bother us."

"But still... escape. It might be worth our jobs and hides to keep the prisoners in chains. I'm going to have to check with Sargent Blackerly."

The guard turns to run back into the gatehouse.

Good looking out, guys. Is he coming back, Ves, or should we press ahead?

    Edit: ahh, that makes sense.

"Perhaps you should see if you could convince the guard to let you tell Blackerly the news in person; you'd have a much better chance of convincing him to bend to our plan without the prisoners present, and certainly a better chance than this guard would give us. If he goes in, the guards are going to come out in arms. We will be willing to aid you in your lie out here."

I think he is giving us achance to respond to the guard turning around, and then there'll be more things going on after it. I am watching the thread, I just didn't have any actions to post BTW.

Dare I ask, is there any point in trying to grapple him? Those grapple rules...

Not really. He's on top of the wall. Pretty hard for you to get him in time.

This is the last call for anything to stop the guard. Last call.
