Don't forget you're getting "advice" from mainly people who have no fucking clue what they're talking about, only what they like. And a lot of times, they don't know why they like it.

Lucifer, yours used way too much of that bright green color. It'd be a fine complimentary color, but it's too bright and frankly garish to be used in such high doses. If you don't want darker colors at least go for something more neutral and muted.

Enembee, I like the glow. It's not over the top. The stripes, not so much. And with the leaping deer the stripes carry even more of that 'road sign' feel to me.

The clearly outlined silhouetted shape of the deer looks too cartoony though. It's worse when the outline is especially clear. The first ones you posted it was harder to tell where the deer stopped and the glow started. That affect helped. I think either blurring, masking, or adding some affect to make it not look so much like a cardboard cutout with a glow effect at X percent transparency and more like a solid object that's the source of the glow would be better.

Maybe add a faint layer of a real deer layered over the thing so that some shadows or the illusion of depth can be put in?

I like the two white lines, but if you feel the need to add a texture background, play with more thin parallel lines, and something with less contrast than thick green and black stripes. Hell, a faint highly opaque picture of the DLP banner might work fine.

Yeah thats cuz I was being a retard and only thinking about the logo not the site/theme as a hole.

I got bored and made a few variations on a design...

The last one would require some kind of border to be added >_>

The problem I have with that one is that, to me, the focused deer picture does not seem to fit with the glowing, almost blurred, text.

I like the 'DLP presents' one the best. It's in tune with the general arrogance of the place. ;)

Then perhaps it could be changed to appear to glow slightly? Rays of light or whatnot.

And the "DLP presents" would be good on all of them...

The DLP Presents one is good, though I kind of agree with nonjon. I think scratch the horizontals, it looks better with the two white lines especially considering the whole Patronus Charm thing. His tips on the deer were good as well. The moderator nonjon is wise, listen to him.

Though, like I said Vash's 'presents' one is nice, but the deer kinda looks like a beer company logo. Reminds me of Tooheys.

Something that may help: The Patronus doesn't need to be a stag. It can be a phoenix, or really any animal mythological or otherwise that you'd like. I had always planned on making a "red" theme with Fawkes as the theme. For DLP, a darker creature might be best.

    Ravenclaw,

Will every theme have a custom CSS file? Sorry if you answered this already, but I don't remember. If so, it could be nice to have several empty <div>s laying around to allow extra flexibility (like css Zen garden).

Yes they'll all have their own CSS, and honestly I don't feel like messing around with new layouts as in CSS Zen Garden. If one of you wants to make a CSS layout for it, I'll add blank divs.

Well, I know it isn't very good, but I was frustrated with my thesis, so I decided to relax a bit and did this:

Almost. When you go to that URL, take out the space (it will appear in the not found string as %20). I think it's an interesting design, although I don't think it fits the DLP theme--perhaps another one. What is the thing on the bottom left? A house?
