Those last one's weren't actually swf files they where .GIF's anyway I can understand that it's distracting I just thought it looked kinda cool.

Anyway here a still one I wanted the P and C to look magnified but it didn't really turn out as well as I planed.

I saw most people seem to take one idea and then try and tweak it to death. This is good when you're further along in the design process but I think we could still use some brainstorming. So I snuck in a couple hours at work to knock out these quickie sketches. I was hoping they might inspire those who want to put in a more significant effort.

I highly encourage all the aspiring digital artists on this board to do these sorts of things, look at a bunch of extremely different styles and schemes to determine which aspects and images work best. And then tweak them to death.

Personally, I like the stag in the fourth one but none of the others do much for me. The fifth is smoother than I expected but the text could be played with to improve it a bunch. The first three I'm not sure there's anything worthwhile in them.

I rather like the dementor-at-the-door, but not the ugly stag on the right side.

You know, you could always learn to make themes for yourselves.

    *cough* http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f...kTheme/?action=view&current=PatronusCharm.png *cough*

I know I gave the CSS of that to somebody awhile ago. Dunno if anything ever came of it, but I think I was promised that it would be a theme. Right now, I cbf to make a logo, but someone else can.

EDIT: My favorite among the logos was enembee's second one. I think it's the most professional looking of all of them.

No offense but those look a little mugglenet to me.

I would suggest simplifying, too many things to focus on in those banners.
That and lens flare is more of a gimic than a tool in photoshop.
It brings the gamma way up and lowers the quality of the picture in my opinion.

But then again, I'm no expert. Where's Vash when you need him?

Edit: I kinda like the crystal ball one, and the 5th one...

Though you put too much emphasis on the text, I'd try matching fonts with the site.

I wouldn't take that if I was you, and I'm halfway there username wise.

Meh. I don't disagree. I stand by my own comments that the only visual I liked was the stag in the fourth one. I'm not sure if I like it for PC, or if I just like it.

I was hoping to inspire others into a little variety rather than a few select options with dozens of slight variations that make very little difference to me. Particularly when many of the logos/images in this thread would suffice, but none have jumped out at me. Or made me want to say 'wow, let's use that one'.

I did go overboard on 'filling' the space. And the extent of my work was to search dementor and patronus in google images, drop them in photoshop, and abuse layer styles on the text layers. Is this where the 'mugglenet' feel comes from maybe? Overuse of film stills and canned HP images poorly integrated with the layout = mugglenet?

Despite a theme of glowing, light source, patronus stuff, the lens flare rarely works (at least in the two I played with it). I still think a flare could work, perhaps smaller or more subtle, to look a little more genuine and less like a Photoshop lens flare filter.

Anyone know what the sixth one looks like? The image and cropping reminds me of something... maybe someone's sig or something like that. It's bugging me with its familiarity.

    No butt rape?

    next time then...

I know what you mean the last one is so familiar its aggravating.

I want to say its a mugglenet theme but I've already checked...

I think you could probably tweak yours a bit more and they'd be a bit more professional.

My advice give it some structures, or borders or even general lines and curves , that way it won't appear so cluttered.

Edit: I'm not entirely sure what about yours reminds me of mugglenet, maybe its the font size and style, maybe its the placement of the text in relation to the pictures, maybe its the familiar pictures itself...

    Something about it just does.
