I would be down for a WoD game, presuming schedules worked out!

I'd be down to be a player in a WoD game as well, depending on schedules as well (either pbp format or skype). It would probably be easier to do in pbp though.

Yeah, either format is good for me.

I prefer Skype because you can get more done in a shorter space of time, but that runs into the problem of time zones. PbP is a lot slower and a lot easier to just lose momentum on, but it also means you don't have to worry about schedules and the likes.

Another call going out for a Pathfinder campaign. Got Dellez and Mishie on board so far. Three players and a GM at the moment. It can work, but one or few more wouldn't hurt.

I found this thing called Tabletop Audio on reddit today.

It looks pretty cool, and I know there are a few quests/rpgs running here so I thought it'd be a neat resource to share.

Hey folks, I'm looking for 3-4 people to join an A Song of Ice and Fire campaign that I intend to run Saturdays at 7pm GMT. We'll be using Roll20 & Skype and it will require a microphone for each player.

We'll be using the Green Ronin rules, though an experience of the game, or even really the setting, is not strictly necessary. However the game will tackle mature themes and although I'm not looking for serious character drama throughout you should be comfortable with these themes and able to play appropriately. Similarly, the focus of the campaign will be narrative, rather than crunch.

    PM me if interested.

Edit: 2 spots gone, faster than crack-flavoured hotcakes. Still looking for 1-2 more but be quick about it. :)

I'd love to, but I can't on Saturdays. If it was on Monday, I could, but I know that would probably upset your schedules. Still, have fun, and post recaps! I wish I could join - I've been wanting to play for a while.

Wish we could change the time, mate. Unfortunately Saturday is literally the only time I have to do it. :(

I was afraid of that. Sucks, but that's just how it goes sometimes, I guess. Ah well. If it ever changes to where you can run during the week, let me know! Or in the morning on any day, for that matter.

Update on the Game of Thrones tabletop for those not playing - nmb is a merciless destroyer of dreams, Braavosi are all lying scum, and murder mysteries are our fucking kryptonite.

Stay tuned for the next episode of Displaced: Murderhobos in Westeros

Yeah, it was funny though. Literally everything that could go wrong did go wrong.

DMed the first session of a new Pathfinder game. New group, good friends, didn't end horribly. I stuttered and flustered my way through it, but the players had fun and want to play again.

So I was fortunate enough to recently participate in a game of the new Mistborn system.

The system itself is reasonably simple, as regards the basic mechanic.

The party consisted of a non-talented crew leader, heavy on influence and resources (myself); a steward/feruchemist; an adrenaline junky, vigilante teenager mistborn; and a wits heavy Pewter Thug.

Overall, they've managed a good level of balance between talented/non-talented characters. You have to play a specialised character, indeed character creation guides you in that direction. But the idea is that you create a 'crew' as a party, so that you don't have any significant weaknesses.

Despite playing a non-talented character, I didn't feel as though I was useless compared to the mistborn. He was utterly lacking in Influence and Resources, and had fairly poor Wits and Charm. His Physical was quite high, but that was it. In comparison, whilst I didn't have any allomancy, I had high Influence, high Resources, high Charm and high Wits. Also, as a character without allomancy you gain additional traits, which help immensely.

On the subject of traits, you need to select them carefully to enhance your character. Don't try for a broad spread of coverage, the emphasis needs to be on specialising your character.

One thing I would advise is not to play a feruchemist. You spend the majority of 'downtime' when the party is planning and scheming unable to participate as you're at severe minuses whilst you store up boosts for later use. Admittedly you are fucking devastating in 'active' situations, whether social or combat, if you've got the right stuff stored up for boosts. So perhaps it would suit a certain type of player, but the guy we had playing it didn't particularly enjoy it.

All in all, a good system, and a fun world to play in.

So, I have new horror story. A few weeks ago i moved in with my Cousin and her Husband. Me and her Husband got this crazy idea in our heads to start up a D&D group. Of course, almost none of his friends knew how to play. So i give him a link to a google doc folder with all of the 4e PDF's and tell him to give the link to people, with the advice that they should get their characters made before the game starts.

Come today, where I thought it'd be a 3-4 player game (Which it was, last I knew), and instead, that number doubled. but that's not all!

None of them had played before and none of them had a character ready.

:wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

The last 7 hours have literally been nothing but me helping them make characters, and explaining the game to them to best of my ability. I came close to ripping my hair out several times.

Yeah, like that has a chance to work, ever.

I'm surprised you expected anyone would get a character done with this sort of set up.

I'm also appalled at the idea that anyone would link a rule-book of more than five pages to people with instructions to make a character and get actual characters at the first session, and I'm not talking about all new players, too.

There are two simple rules to follow:

    • When you want to play with newbie players, make them characters in advance yourself.*
    • When you want to introduce a new system, allocate time for each player beforehand to outline and finish their character with you there to watch over.

*Or use an online database for characters. Or, have all the characters of older games stashed in a box to be reused when needed.

I literally thought I was DMing for 3-4 people. One of them had prior experience and knew the system, but he ended up not being able to make it because he's working out of town.

The other two were friends of my Cousin's Husband- I had no idea how to get in contact with them, but I figured making two characters before starting wouldn't be too hard. I had my Cousin's Husband tell them to think about what kind of character they want to play, so we'd have a place to start.

My Cousin's husband I did help. He changed his character at the last goddamn moment.

And then the one guy with experience dropped out for the week, another couldn't make it for other reasons, and then somehow a bunch of his other friends showed up.

I never expected them to learn the system that easily. I just wanted em to look things over, like Races and Classes and see what they might be interested in and we could go from there.
