I'm game with Scifi or Urban Fantasy. Not interested in straight Fantasy.

I've never done any Pen and Paper but have generally been interested in it. Only time I had some friends around locally I could play with our game was cancelled by Hurricane Katrina, then everyone left town for some reason or other.

If you guys wanted to get a really simple game going I'd be up for trying it online as opposed to RL, but I don't really want to get into something super complicated when I'm not familiar with how things work. How often would things be played -- daily at a certain time? I am in and out of town a good bit these days, and when I'm home I have internet access 24/7, but out of town I don't.

Am interested in this too but really depends on the time this is played.

So, there's a bunch of people already.
Alright, so there will be a game. I'll get to preparing the details soon.
As it's a game with a GM, eight people are almost manageable, and if i'm not mistaken there were exactly eight expressing some form of interest.
So, these have a priority over others, and in a an event that all of them decide to play, I won't have place for anyone else:

    Varios (F)
    Aekiel (All)
    Coyote (S, U, no F)
Riley Poole (I'm right handed, if that helps)
    Fiat (All)
    Tenhauser (F, U)
    CheddarTrek (simple)
    Nemrut (time(?))

    The preferences were:
    F ++-
    U ++
    S +

Fantasy or Urban fantasy seem to be the choice, and as F got a negative, and it has been quite some time since my last Vtm, I'm up to GM'ing Urban Fantasy.

I'll create a thread soonishly (in one to two days, depending on the time I spend thinking about the details) for characters and questions, and post a link here, in case you miss it.
Preliminary it's going to be called "[FRPG] National Crime Shadow: Characters and Questions" or something like that.

On playing time, and all the other details - apparently
wasn't clear enough for some reason.

For those who have no experience in the stuff - play by post (I haven't seen 'pbp' used much) and Forum game, or FRPG mean the same thing:

As implied by 'forum' and 'play by post', there's simply a thread where players and a GM post at whenever it's convenient for them. The speed of the game is, thus, obviously, quite slow, but takes only 10-15 mins per day. On the occasional overlap, there's a few faster posts or even naturally formed longer periods of play.

A variation exists where there's no gm, somewhat more similar to round robin story writing, only with your own characters. Those usually get derailed into nonsense fast, though.

The system will be light and simple, and I don't really care about experience, I'll walk you by hand till you can walk by yourselves, and then we'll see if you can learn to swim on your own. Alright?

The character creation will be making a few small choices, grabbing the best part of the given list and thinking of a name for the character.

    EDIT:
    Go there

Awesome. What system are we using for this again? (FATE, DnD, etc?)

If you do have other people interested and I'm the only complete n00b -- I'd be happy watching/observing and letting someone else play. It'd give me a chance to see how it would be done rather than jumping with both feet.

I'm definitely interested in this, although if you have enough people I'll set this one out and I'll play in the next.

I'll follow this with great interest and play the next, if there is one. I've recently found out this Pen and Paper game's existence (they're practically unknown in Italy) but couldn't convince anyone to play... also because I wouldn't know where to start one myself. This might give me a better idea.

As per original idea of the thread, remembered a story, figure I'd share.

The game was about a private detective firm, that got slightly too deep in the supernatural, but ended up working for an Anarch Baron.

We were playing a session in a pub, when two party members decided to do something apart from others. We went upstairs, resolved the situation in fifteen to twenty minutes and went downstairs again.

Now, through the game we were mostly silentish, and there were a couple of people sitting at a nearby table, mostly paying us no attention.

As we were descending, they naturally raised their heads to look up. At that moment, a guy from the table, the official boss of the in-game detective firm, asked, loudly. "So, what did you do with the men?"

The guys, of course, replied with full seriousness. "We stuffed them back into the car, and pushed it into the river."

The pair at the next table quickly glance downwards, trying to look like they're not watching and leave as quickly as possible, without finishing half of a meal. It probably helped that the river in question was, at most, five minute walk from the pub, and players going downstairs with me had leather jackets and were quite large.

Time is about 5/6 hours per weekend (from 1am GMT on Saturdays). Tech wise you'd only need irc and the DFRPG pdfs (which would totally not miraculously appear in your inbox if you were to join up).
